Bulgar Breakfast Cereal

Bulgar Breakfast Cereal

Yield: 4 servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes


4 cups water
1 cup medium-grind bulgur
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup flaxseed meal
1/2 cup toasted almonds, chopped
1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon light brown sugar
Honey, for serving


In a medium saucepan over medium heat combine water, bulgar, salt, cinnamon, raisins, and cranberries; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 20 to 25 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and divide between 4 bowls. Top each serving with 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal, 1 teaspoon brown sugar and 1 tablespoon chopped almonds. Drizzle with honey to taste. Serve warm.
