How To Make Apple Cake

This isn’t an ordinary apple cake recipe; it’s made in the Instant Pot, so it’s extraordinary! Once you use your pressure cooker to make some desserts, you will figure out how amazing it really is. Okay, I can’t keep you waiting anymore, time to give you directions on how to make the best apple cake recipe ever!

First Step: Begin by mixing together the diced apples, cinnamon, and 2 tbsp sugar in a small bowl. Set aside

Second Step: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until combined in a large mixing bowl.

Third Step: In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, orange juice, sugar, vanilla, and eggs until combined.

Fourth Step: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Don’t add the dry ingredients in too quickly.

Fifth Step:  Lightly grease your bundt pan with baking spray.

Sixth Step: Next, pour half the batter into the springform pan.

Seventh Step: Spread half the diced apples on top of the batter in an even layer.

Eighth Step: Pour the remaining batter on top of the apples and pour the remaining diced apples and juices onto the top layer of the cake batter.

Ninth Step: Cover the springform pan with foil, carefully.

Tenth Step: Add 1 cup of water into the insert of the Instant Pot then place the trivet inside.

Eleventh Step: Place the springform onto the trivet and close the lid.

Twelfth Step: Turn the Instant Pot to manual for 60 minutes. Then close the lid and make sure vent is closed.

Thirteenth Step: Once the timer goes off, allow to natural pressure release before removing the lid. This may take several minutes; this is normal.

Fourteenth Step: Carefully take out the trivet and remove the foil from the springform pan.

Fifteenth Step: Allow the cake to cool completely before removing the springform, or it may fall apart.

Sixteenth Step: Sprinkle the apple spice cake with powdered sugar and enjoy!

Instant Pot Apple Cake Variations

Apple cake has been around forever. There are tons of variations out there, and while I think this is the best apple cake recipe already, you can always toss in some extra flavors. Here are my go-to ingredients to add in:

  • Pecans – I love any kind of cake, brownies, or other fall dessert recipes with pecans. They just add a hint of flavor to the easy apple cake, and I enjoy the texture.
  • Raisins – If you are a fan of raisins, then you should add in 1/2 cup of them to the batter! They taste yummy and look fabulous in the cake.
  • Mini Chocolate Chips – I don’t think you can ever go wrong adding in a little bit of chocolate to most desserts! Don’t go crazy; just 1/2 cup will be plenty.
  • Butterscotch chips – Butterscotch and apples are complimentary flavors. You will be surprised at how amazing it is!
  • Pears – They add incredible flavor and texture to this pressure cooker apple cake. Try it for yourself, because I know you will be impressed! Just replace 1 cup of apples with diced pears instead.

How Do You Cut Apples For Apple Cake?

You will first want to peel the apples for the cake. Many apple recipes don’t require the skin to be removed, but with this fall dessert, the result will be much better without the peel. Then use a fruit dicer or cut them by hand, so they are in 1-inch pieces. If you prefer them to be smaller or larger pieces, you can adjust according to your preference.

Can I Cut Apples Ahead Of Time?

Yes, you can cut the apples ahead of time for this apple cake recipe. You just want to follow one of the following methods to prevent the apples from turning brown:

  • Keep the apples in a bowl with 1 1/2 cups of cold water and 1 1/2 Tablespoons of lemon juice. Stir it around and place the apples in the fridge until you are ready to bake with them.
  • Use a can of clear pop to prevent browning. Simply add the sliced or diced apples to the pop and leave in an airtight bowl until ready to use.
  • Soak the apples in pineapple juice. Use 1 – 1 1/2 cups and toss the apples in. You can dilute it with water if you prefer too.
  • Use citric acid to keep the apples from turning brown. Mix 1 teaspoon of citric acid per 1 cup of water. Stir until the citric acid is dissolved then add in apples.
  • Use honey and water to keep the diced apples looking fresh. Use 1 cup of cold water and 2 tablespoons of honey. Place in the fridge until you are ready to make the pressure cooker apple cake.

How Do You Store This Instant Pot Apple Cake?

This fall dessert can be stored in the fridge or on the counter depending on your preference. No matter where you keep it, it needs to be kept in an airtight container with a lid. This will keep it fresh longer. If you keep the apple dessert on the counter, it will last 2-3 days, and if you put it in the fridge, it lasts 4-5 days.

When ready to serve, you can warm it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds or eat it cold. Either way, it tastes great! Especially if you serve it with ice cream.

Can I Freeze Pressure Cooker Apple Cake?

Yes, you can freeze leftover cake! Just wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or tin foil, place the individual servings in an airtight container, then put in the freezer. It will last 2-3 months in the freezer. Just take it out an place it in the fridge or on the counter until thawed then it’s ready to eat.
