This French Onion Skillet Chicken is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a comforting weeknight meal, the onions are caramelized to perfection and the herbs, garlic, and white wine add a depth of flavor that will have you coming back for seconds.
Ingredients
⅓C.Olive oil
2Large sweet onions sliced into rings
6Boneless skinless chicken thighs
½tsp.Thyme
½tspDried sage
Salt and pepper to taste
2C.Beef broth
1tsp.Worcestershire sauce
2tsp.Balsamic vinegar
2Tbsp.Flour mixed in a bit of water
1C.Shredded swiss cheese
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Add the olive oil to an ovenproof skillet over medium heat on the stove, and saute the onions in it until they are caramelized, about 15 minutes.
Remove the onions and set aside.
Season the chicken with salt and pepper to taste, the thyme and sage. Sear the chicken on both sides, browning it well and evenly. Remove the chicken and set aside.
Stir the beef broth into the skillet along with the worcestershire sauce and the balsamic vinegar.
Whisk in the flour that has been dissolved in a bit of water.
Saute the sauce until thickened.
Return the chicken and onions to the skillet and top with the cheese.
Bake in the oven for 15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
