Onion Fritters are an Amish-style favorite! This recipe is easy to make and results in delicious crispy fritters that are perfect for an appetizer or side dish, the fritters come out of the oil crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the onions give them a sweet and savory flavor.
Ingredients
1cupflour
2teaspoonssugar
2teaspoonsbaking powder
1/2teaspoonsalt
1/4teaspoonblack pepper
2tablespoonscornmeal
2 1/2cupschopped onions
1cupmilk
1/2cupcooking oil
Instructions
In a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cornmeal, and whisk to combine thoroughly.
Set those ingredients aside.
Prepare your onions.
Prepare your onions by cutting them into small, even pieces. They'll cook up best that way when they're uniform.
Pour in milk and mix to combine.
In a large skillet add the oil over high heat.
Drop by onion mixture by spoonfuls into hot oil.
Cook on one side until brown, and then flip to cook on the other side.
