I love baked oatmeal & this looks delish!
What would happen if I used old fashioned oats instead??
Old-fashioned and quick oats can be used interchangeably in recipes. Just keep an eye on it while it is baking, I would add about 10 more minutes to the cook time. The texture will be slightly different, but I am sure it will still be delicious! Let me know how it turns out!
I made the oatmeal for company on the weekend. I prepared it and then let it sit for an hour while we ate so it ended up a little soggy. I’m guessing because I let it sit with the milk. Other than that, it was great – not too sweet and hearty breakfast or good dessert with ice cream.
Did you mix all the ingredients together and then let it sit for an hour? With this to get the best texture, I would place it in the oven as soon as you add the wet ingredients. You could also try baking it a little longer than I suggested, that would help with it being a little soggy.
Yes, I did mix and then let it sit so that’s where I went wrong. I will try it again though because I like the taste. Is it supposed to be crunchy or just baked?
Let me know how it turns out for you. This is one of my favorite breakfasts. It also reheats very well…just place it in a 350 degree oven 10-15 minutes. I make this on Sunday morning and eat the leftovers during the work week. The texture is not crunchy, it is somewhat solid. When you cut into it, it will hold its shape.
These look lovely, perfect for lunch boxes can’t wait to try them- need to get some apples!! Congrats on Top 9!!
this looks so good! I will definitely try it!

Thanks for the inspiration!

I know this is an older recipe, but I’m just now getting around to baking it! It’s been saved in my computer for awhile! It’s in the oven right now!
Christina,
This is one of my favorite breakfast recipes. I make it at least twice a month. It is so quick and easy and super delicious. I hope that you enjoyed it!
Hi, Christina. Your recipe came up when I was searching for some apple recipes to feature on my blog today. Every Friday, I feature other bloggers around a theme, and today’s is Apples. I’m so in the mood for fall! I am going to make these soon. Do you think they would freeze well? I like to batch cook, and was thinking I could make some to put in the freezer for busy mornings. My Friday’s Finds post is up. Congratulations on being a Friday Favorite!
Carrie,
I have made this many times on a Sunday morning, refrigerated it and eaten it throughout the weekday before, but it has never lasted long enough to freeze. I am not sure if it would freeze very well since it is not a stiff breakfast bar and is best eaten with a fork. That being said, if you give it a try let me know how it turns out for you. This is one of my favorite fall breakfasts!

I made this twice in the past week! My family loved it (we have never had baked oatmeal before). The first time, I made it just as the recipe states. The second time, I added a can of peaches (chopped into little pieces) and everyone loved that addition. Thanks!
Heidi,
I am so glad to hear that your family enjoyed the oatmeal! I will have to try adding a can of peaches next time I make this…i bet it tasted great!
