Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Boneless and Skinless Chicken Breasts: Honestly, this is already a pretty healthy lasagna stuffed chicken version, but cutting out the meat and replacing it with soy makes it a little healthier.
- Ricotta Cheese: There’s a huge debate among people who make this family friendly lasagna stuffed chicken: ricotta or cottage cheese! Both are really tasty, but cottage cheese is slightly healthier.
- Marinara Sauce: Tasty marinara sauce makes this dish denser and juicier. If, for whatever reason, you or your family don’t enjoy it, try tomato sauce, pizza sauce, or tomato paste. Those substitutions really change this dish’s flavor, so be careful.
- Minced Garlic: Adding a little minced garlic to your lasagna ensures it has an authentic Italian flavor. Find minced garlic a little too strong? Try garlic powder or salt to take down the kick a little. You can also try peppercorns or asafetida powder for a slightly different taste.
- Other Ingredients: You’ll need an egg, salt and pepper to taste, mozzarella cheese, and Italian seasoning to complete this dish. It’s hard to cut any of these out, honestly, but you can tweak them with different herbs and spices, if you want.
How to Make It
This best lasagna stuffed chicken recipe requires you to preheat your oven to 400 degrees. While you’re waiting for that, start this easy lasagna stuffed chicken for beginners by cutting your chicken breasts in half lengthwise. Leave a small flap so you can stuff them! I suggest doing that right at the top.

Next, your simple lasagna stuffed chicken meal needs you to combine the ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and 1 ½ cups of the Mozzarella cheese.
