How To Dress Up A Boxed Cake Mix

Making traditional boxed cake mixes can leave you feeling bored and underwhelmed. Thankfully, there are ways you can dress up the cake mix to give yourself an incredible dessert.

First of all, you want to add extra ingredients to the mix. We will show you exactly what you need for this easy banana cake. You can play with other recipes by adding in a few extras too.

Secondly, adding frosting that’s homemade instead of a can of frosting gives you terrific results too.

How To Ripen Bananas Fast

If you need bananas to be ripened quickly so you can add them to a recipe, don’t worry, we have some simple tips to help. The first thing you can try is to microwave the banana for a minute or two. It will be extremely hot, and you should let it cool first. Once it’s cool, it will be a soft texture that is perfect for baking.

Another idea is to bake the banana at 275 degrees for 25-20 minutes. Be sure to leave the skin on, and don’t be alarmed when it changes colors. It’s normal, and the banana itself will ripen so you can use it.

If you have more time, then place the bananas in a paper bag to speed up the ripening process. If you have an apple, add it to the bag because it will speed it up even more.

Variations To Recipe

Banana cake is easy to add variety to. You simply in your extra favorite ingredients and devour every last crumb. Here are a few of our favorite add-ins you are going to want to try out.

  • Chocolate – I am a self-proclaimed chocoholic, so I knew adding some chocolate would take this cake to the next level. I was entirely right and had to share it with you. Use milk, semi-sweet, or even white chocolate. Chocolate chips work fine, or you can chop a chocolate bar.
  • Nuts – Any kind of nut you enjoy will be fine! Pecans, walnuts, and hazelnuts would be my top picks, but you could also use pistachios or almonds too.
  • Hot Fudge – You can drizzle some hot fudge on top of the banana cake after it’s cooled and ready to serve. It’s so yummy with the bananas.

Does This Cake Need Refrigerated

No, this banana cake with marshmallow frosting doesn’t have to be refrigerated if you don’t want it to be. I love the texture of the cold cake, but you can easily leave it at room temperature if you want to. It will last 3-4 days, whether it’s chilled or at room temp. Try it both ways to see what you like the best.

How Long Will This Cake Last

This incredible banana cake will last for 3-4 days, either in the fridge or on the counter. It just needs to be adequately covered and kept away from any heat sources like sunlight or steam.
