My husband and I are huge Ohio State fans and for the game tonight against the Kentucky Wildcats I decided against making regular buckeyes for these addicting Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites. I saw these about a month ago over at Two Tiny Kitchens and about fell out of my chair. A buckeye sandwiched between two pretzels and dipped in chocolate! Seriously? I am all over it! The sweet and salty combination of these bite-sized snacks is incredible. Then the fact that it is a chocolate and peanut butter combination makes it even better! Even if you are not a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, whip up a batch of these simple bites and come back and let me know what you think! I promise you will find them as delicious as my family does!
Peanut Butter “Buckeye” Pretzel Bites
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons softened butter
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- Pretzels
- 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat peanut butter and butter until combined. Scrape down bowl, add sugars and beat until combined. You should be able to roll the mixture into balls without sticking to your hands. If needed, add more powdered sugar until you reach a consistency that is easy to roll.
- Roll the mixture into small balls, about 1 teaspoon of mixture for each ball, and place on prepared baking sheet. Sandwich the balls between two pretzels and place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
- Melt the chocolate in a metal bowl over a pan of lightly simmering water. Stir occasionally until smooth, and remove from heat. Dip each pretzel bite halfway into the melted chocolate and place on the prepared baking sheet. Chill in refrigerator until chocolate is set.

OUT OF CONTROL. I seriously could eat chocolate covered pretzels every day. The salty/sweet thing gets me every time. And to add peanut butter to the mix? Be still my heart. Just added to my “have to try” list! Thanks
Oh wow!!! These look amazing! I love the pretzel and peanut butter combo. These look so easy to make too. Love this recipe!
OMG, this is way brilliant!!
Although I’ll be cheering for KY tonight (my only hope of winning my bracket pool), these look fantastic! I think I’ll be making some on Sunday!
I had to do a double take because on my blog list both you and Elissa from 17 and Baking put these up today! They must be a huge hit if everyone’s hooked! I’m not much of a basketball fan, but I’ll always root for the Bucks! And eat endless amounts of chocolate and peanut butter.
so mouth watering!!! i hv to make these!!! great post and the pics are to die for!
Aww, so cute!
I never get tired of peanut butter and chocolate:-)
We are HUGE Ohio State fans over here and will be making these for sure! We’ll be using SunButter of course but man do these look good!!
Hi, Tracy ~ Thanks for the delicious idea! (Sorry about those Buckeyes…) Beauty of sports? Always a new season. : )
I love the salty/sweet combination. These look so good!
Not an Ohio State fan at all….. perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I attend Penn State. But I LOVE Buckeyes (the candy) and there is nothing better than peanut butter, chocolate, and pretzels!
If I made those, I don’t think anyone else would get a chance to even try them. I’d keep them all to myself!
Enjoy the game tonight
I love the savory and sweet combination. So awesome
OMG these look so good! I will have to try them. Go Ohio!
These are insane. The Ohio in me already loves Buckeyes, but I think you just turned it up a few more notches. These are great.
Oh god. I think you’ve ruined me for all other snacks.
It’s definitely addictive!
I literally just stumbled across your blog and the first thing I read was “Ohio State” fans. I am too!! Sad night for the Buckeyes but love the twist on buckeyes here.
I have never seen this before! I love it!
I’m defintely not a Buckeye fan (go Penn State!) but I’d eat anything that’s peanut butter, chocolate, and pretzels! Yum.
the printer friendly version is great! thanks; this is an awesome recipe!
Adorable!
I think we are living parallel lives. Similar blog titles, both Buckeye fans. I’ve never seen this idea before, despite living most of my life in Ohio. Brilliant!!
These look fantastic! I made Buckeyes a while back, but this is such a clever twist on the candy. I will definitely be making these soon. I was devastated about our loss last night, but we’ll get ‘em next year. Glad Sullinger is coming back.
GO BUCKS!!
I have a complete addiction to chocolate-covered pretzels and only have them when I’m back visiting in the US. But these! Ahh! They will definitely be made in a French kitchen in the nearby future
OH goodness this is so yummy on my list for the next party!
great idea, these look sooooo yummy!
I know, right?! I saw these over at Two TIny Kitchen’s too and I about fell over! They are in my file ready to make! Mmm! Yours are so cute and chubby – delish! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I was kind of surprised myself at how good the jelly bean cookies turned out. lol ♥- K
All I know is that those are super adorable and I sort of want those right now. We’ll have to make those soon!
Awwwhhh! I want one of those RIGHT NOW!
I’m so trying these! Thanks for the recipe.

Great idea! Yum!
I don’t have a stand mixer and was wondering the best way to mix this up without one. Any ideas? Thanks!
You can make these by hand, but you will definitely get your arm workout for the day! In a large mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter and softened butter by hand. Gradually add the powdered sugar and brown sugar, mixing and cutting in until smooth and the mixture can be shaped into balls. You can use a fork to ‘cut’ it in. Let me know how they turn out for you!
ah yay!!! These looks awesome–and definitely a fun spin on the beloved buckeyes:)
Go Bucks!! Big Ohio fan and these look wonderful! Will have to try these for sure because we love the Buckeye Balls, which are a family favorite at Christmas at our house
Martha,
My husband and I are HUGE Buckeye fans!! We were both born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and although we are living In Illinois, the buckeyes will always be our team! Go Bucks!
I tried these tonight–they’re like mini candy bars
Adding a little milk to the chocolate made the dipping much smoother and faster in the melting part. Oh–and one 12 oz bag of semi sweet chocolate chips was perfect in dipping two batches!
I am sooo glad that you enjoyed these! Thanks so much for letting me know how they turned out! They are really addicting! Thanks for the tip about adding the milk, I will have to give that a try!

I can’t wait to make these!!! Maybe not as dangerous as buckeyes!!
Connie,
Let me know how they turn out for you!
They are just as dangerous as buckeyes….just to give you fair warning!

These look wonderful. Almost too good.
Is there a way to print the recipes? I know I must be missing it. Thank you.
I hope you enjoy them! They are super simple and sooo delicious!
Um, yes there is. It says it in the big blue bold letters. So sorry. Ack!
Have you tried using them with natural peanut butter? My husband’s family (who lives in Ohio) gave me a recipe for buckeyes, and it specifically states not to use natural peanut butter….but, I hate to use the processed stuff. Just wondering if you’ve tried it and if so, whether you’ve had issues with the oil separating?
I tried making these but could’t get the brown sugar to dissolve!!! so I just used my buckeye recipe
Jeanette,
I hate that you weren’t able to get the brown sugar to dissolve. I have never had that problem making these. I am glad that you used your own buckeye recipe instead, I hope you enjoyed them!
I just found this recipe through pintrest.com! I’m making these for my Christmas even party! What a nice twist on buckeyes =)
Cynthia,
I hope you and your guests enjoy them! Let me know how they turn out for you!
These look delicious! Can’t wait to make them this week.
These were soo good! Defintely a favorite this holiday season!
I am so glad that you enjoyed them!! My family loves this recipe, especially around football season!
