  • Don’t add the butter until the sugar is properly melted.

Variations:

  • Substitute one tablespoon of melted baking chocolate for one tablespoon of milk. This will give the caramel sauce a subtle chocolatey flavor.
  • To spice up the caramel sauce a little, you can add a tablespoon of rum, or a sweet liqueur, like Amarula.
  • Substitute half the cream with condensed milk, to give the sauce a smoother texture and sweeter taste.

Step 1. Heat the sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat on the stove.
