Nachos originated in the country of Mexico where they were very first served as a dish of tortilla chips that were just topped with cheese and jalapeno peppers. Over time, the dish has evolved and many people have started adding a variety of different topics, including meat, beans, salsa, sour cream, and vegetables. Why won’t my shredded cheese melt?

Shredded cheese will melt. It is just you will find that pre-shredded cheese has more oil and starches so it will have a different texture than shredded off the block. You can use either for the nacho recipe.

Do you put cheese on first or last for nachos?

You can pile the cheese on when you would like. As you see in this recipe I created layers of ingredients so each bite you get a mix of all the ingredients. Feel free to try out where you like it.

What is the secret to crispy nachos?

Serve your nachos up right away. If you allow your nachos to sit they will get soggy pretty fast. The reason is all the toppings are going to soak up in the chips as it breaks down.

What is the best way to melt cheese on nachos?

Placing your nachos in the oven is going to allow the cheese to melt. If you are worried it won’t melt then add your cheese last so they are on top of the rest of the fixings. It will then melt quicker.

How to serve Chicken Nachos?

Serve these chicken nachos up as an appetizer or dinner idea. These are full of flavor and can be game-day food or a weeknight dinner for your family.

Eat it alone or pair it with a salad or even a side of rice to elevate your meal.

Pro Tips:

  • Don’t add a ton of wet ingredients on top of the nachos, as it can make chips soggy.
  • Heat it up in the oven until it is melted and warmed up.
  • Try to add ingredients all over the chips, so you get an even layer of ingredients.
  • Once the nachos are done serve it up right away.

Variations:

  • Use ground beef instead of chicken. Or opt for ground chicken. Just make sure the meat is fully cooked.
  • If you want to have a lower carb option use mini bell peppers sliced in half to mimic chips and then add topping on top of peppers.
  • Skip the black beans.
  • Add on some Mexican rice for added flavor and texture.

How to store Chicken Nachos?

If you have leftovers simply store in an airtight container in the fridge. You will find these store for about 1-2 days. The chips will get soggy once they cool down and are in the fridge.

How to reheat Chicken Nachos?

Place your nachos on a plate and heat in the microwave. Or opt to reheat the nachos in the oven until the toppings are warmed up. Or if you want eat them cold.

Can I make ahead Chicken Nachos?

Pre-cook the chicken and prep the toppings if you would like. But I do recommend assembling and cooking your nachos right before servings. Otherwise the texture of the nachos won’t be what you want it to.
