Layered Vanilla Valentine’s Cake Recipe

You know how much I love desserts, but this Valentine’s Cake is beyond amazing. Not only does it look fabulous, but it also tastes even better. When it comes to holidays, I enjoy making treats and foods to fit with the theme. There is nothing more fun to me than spending time in the kitchen, creating something beautiful out of a few simple ingredients. You don’t have to be a professional baker to make something this amazing either! This layered vanilla cake is perfect for even a beginning baker. Even if something does go wrong, odds are it’s completely fixable, and you can try again. Just never give up because once you create something this amazing, it becomes a great stress relief too.

Surprise your spouse or significant other this Valentine’s Day with this terrific cake. They will be shocked you made it yourself, and it wasn’t done in a bakery! Or, you can make it for your kiddos, an elderly neighbor, or even your child’s teacher. Valentine’s Day can easily be celebrated with people that aren’t your significant other too. Show people you care with a layered cake, and they will be begging for the recipe.

Can You Add Cherries Into This Cake?

This layered cake has cherries as a garnish, so it would be delightful to add some cherries to the cake or frosting. Just add some chopped up cherries to the batter or the icing as you wish. It will add a fun element that is incredible, and I think you will enjoy it.

If you feel like going wild or you simply aren’t a fan of cherries, you can swap them for strawberries or raspberries too. Either way, you are going to have a light and amazing cake that is incredible.

Tips for Layering Cakes

There are several things that will help you make best-layered cakes every time. I wanted to take a second to help give you this guide, so your cake turns out lovely each time.

  1. When baking layered cakes, it’s best to use ingredients that are at room temperature. Butter and eggs are always better to bake with when they are at room temp.
  2. Check your oven temperature every once in a while. If your oven is cooking too hot, your cakes will end up dry and overdone. And if it’s running too cold, you may find the exterior gets baked, but the inside is still raw. Just use an oven thermometer to get a reading and adjust the temperature as needed.
  3. Don’t skip greasing your cake pans. If you do, they will probably stick and fall apart when you try to remove them. That is a sickening feeling, and it makes your experience frustrating. Non-stick cooking spray or grease will work well.
  4. Allow time for the cake to cool. Frosting a warm cake will make it melt down into the cake and not taste the greatest. Plus, if you try to cut the domes off when the cake is hot, then it will be a crumbly mess.

Valentine’s Cake Recipe

The directions are super easy-to-follow, and I can’t wait for you to try it. Take a look at how simple it is to make.

First Step: Prep the baking pans by spraying them with non-stick spray and warm the oven up to 350 degrees.

Second Step: Mix all the cake ingredients in a large mixing bowl using a hand mixer. Blend until combined and smooth.

Third Step: Divide the cake batter in half and place it in two bowls.

Fourth Step: Add a few drops of the pink food coloring in one of the bowls. Leave the second bowl white.

Fifth Step: Add 1/4 cup of the pink batter into each pan, then add 1/4 cup of the white batter in the cake pans. Alternate between pink and white until you have a tie-dye effect.

Sixth Step: Put the pans in the oven and bake for 28-32 minutes. A toothpick should come out clean when they are finished.

Seventh Step: Let the cakes cool completely.

Frosting directions

First Step: Beat all the frosting ingredients except for the food coloring in a stand mixer. Mix until there are stiff peaks that have formed.

Second Step: Put 2 cups of the frosting into a medium bowl.

Third Step: Add 1 cup of frosting into another medium bowl.

Fourth Step: Put 2 drops of pink food coloring in the bowl with 2 cups of frosting.

Fifth Step: Add 4 drops of gel coloring to the second bowl.

Building the Cake directions :

First Step: Put 1 cup of white frosting into a large piping bag that has the start tip. Add 1 cup of the light pink frosting the other side of the same piping bag.

Second Step: Add one layer of the cake on the board and cut off the dome to make it even. Repeat with the same cakes.

Third Step: Add 1 cup of white frosting to the bottom layer and spread it out evenly.

Fourth Step: Place the second layer of cake on the frosting and add more frosting. Add the final layer of cake and frost the entire cake with the leftover white frosting.

Fifth Step: Place the iced cake in the fridge for 30 minutes so it can harden.

Sixth Step: Put the light pink frosting in the microwave for 10 seconds then add it to the piping bag.

Seventh Step: Put the dark pink frosting in a second piping bag with a #17 tip.

Decorating Directions

First Step: Cut the tip off of the light pink piping bag, and pipe drips around the cake edges.

Second Step: Add some heart-shaped sprinkles to the dripping frosting.

Third Step: Put a cookie cutter in the front center of the cake. Lightly press, so it leaves an outline, then fill in the heart with the darker pink frosting.

Fourth Step: Pipe dollops on the top of the cake and add some more sprinkles.

Fifth Step: Top the cake with some cherries and enjoy!
