Why I love New York Cheesecake?

  • Ultra creamy
  • Velvety
  • Rich in flavor
  • Homemade cheesecake
  • Make ahead friendly

What is the difference between New York-style cheesecake and regular cheesecake?

Regular cheesecake is a lighter and creamier texture, where New York style cheesecake is an ultra-creamy and velvety texture that is a bit denser. Both offer that sweet and tangy cheesecake flavor everyone knows and loves.

Is cheesecake better baked or not?

This is a personal preference to be honest. Some love the light and creamy baked cheesecake. While others want more of a mousse-like cheesecake filling which is what you will find with a no bake cheesecake recipe.

Why do you put sour cream in cheesecake?

Sour cream is going to help thicken the cheesecake but it also creates a really tangy component that helps the cheesecake stand out from other desserts on the market.

Is sour cream or yogurt better for cheesecake?

You will find either work for this recipe. Now you can use sour cream or a plain yogurt. If you want a bit more protein reach for a plain Greek yogurt for the recipe.

How to serve New York Cheesecake?

You need to allow your New York cheesecake to fully be cool. Once it has had time to chill you will slice and serve as is. Or top with your favorite fruit topping, drizzle of chocolate, caramel sauce, etc.

New York Cheesecake Cooking Tips:

  • Make sure that you press the graham cracker crust firmly in the pie pan to ensure the crust is packed tightly in the pan.
  • Make sure to start with room-temperature cream cheese so it creates the proper texture. Otherwise, it can be lumpy.
  • Don’t overmix once you add in the eggs, or it can affect the texture of the cheesecake.
  • Tap the pan on the table a few times before you go to bake it to help release any air bubbles in the pan.

Variations of New York Cheesecake:

  • Use a chocolate Oreo crust instead of a classic crust. Golden Oreos, chocolate Oreos, etc.
  • You can add in items like pie filling and swirl it around on top for a sweet twist.
  • Mix in mini chocolate chips or other mix-in ingredients to enhance the flavor even more.
  • Decorate the top of the cheesecake with fresh berries, whipped cream, etc.
