Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

Refrigerated pie crust: While a refrigerated pie crust is recommended if you want to expedite the prep time for this quiche, you are also free to make your own from scratch. You can also try our Grandma’s pie crust if you’re feeling a classic, traditional crust for this quiche. However, a refrigerated pie crust is the perfect addition to this recipe if you’re seeking something simple, fast, and delicious.

Heavy whipping cream: Swap the heavy whipping cream for full-fat milk or, if you want to skip milk and whipping cream, you can try to use almond milk (unflavored). This will make your mixture thinner, so it may be best to reduce the amount of milk or almond milk you use.

Crumbled bacon: You can substitute real cooked bacon for already-cooked bacon slices or even real bacon bits, depending on your preferences. If you want to change the bacon to ham or even chopped slices of turkey, you can do so without much fuss!

Shredded cheese: When melting any type of cheese, it’s best to use freshly grated. While it’s possible to use bagged, shredded cheese, there are preservatives, which may require more time to get the melted texture that’s just right for quiche.

How to Make It

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare the rest of the ingredients for the quiche while your oven is heating up!

Step 2. Place the refrigerated (or homemade) pie crust into a well-greased pie plate. Spread the dough so it’s covering the entire pie plate evenly. This will be the base for your quiche’s ingredients.

Step 3. Add the crumbled bacon and shredded cheese to the bottom of the crust on the pie plate.

Step 4. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy whipping cream, parmesan cheese, and salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5. Pour the egg mixture over the cheese and bacon on the pie plate.

Step 6. Bake for 40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the quiche is cooked through. You can choose to broil this quiche for 1 to 2 minutes on high once it’s cooked thoroughly. This will add an even crispier, golden-brown top to your quiche without much effort. Keep an eye on your quiche if you’re broiling it to avoid burning the crust.

Enjoy!

Tips for Success

Use refrigerated pie dough to prepare this healthy bacon and cheese quiche version as quickly as possible. If you’re using homemade pie crust, allow the crust to cool in your refrigerator before making the quiche. This will ensure the dough remains in place as you prepare the remaining ingredients.

Let your quiche rest for 5 to 10 minutes after removing it from the oven, so the flavors have time to meld together perfectly.

Storage & Reheating

You can store this quiche in your pie dish if it has an airtight lid for 3 to 4 days safely. If you do not have a lid for your pie pan, separate your quiche into multiple servings and use traditional airtight containers or Tupperware to store in your refrigerator.

You can freeze single servings or your entire quiche in the freezer for up to 2 months. Always thaw your quiche before reheating.

Reheat your quiche in a 300-degree Fahrenheit oven for 10 to 15 minutes once it’s thawed or removed from your refrigerator. You can also microwave your quiche for 1 to 3 minutes, per serving, depending on the power of your microwave.

Serving Suggestions

Try serving this quiche with your favorite fruits or even fried cabbage with onions and bacon! You have plenty of options, since this quiche can be served at just about any time of the day, even as an appetizer! Add green onions, swap filling ingredients, or add a dash of your favorite Cajun seasoning to take this recipe to a whole new level of flavor.

Notes

This quiche is perfect if you’re planning a midday afternoon brunch or if you have hungry kids and family members in your household. Not only is this recipe scrumptious, but it’s hearty and filling and oh-so-comforting.
