Bacon and Vegetable Slice

Crispy bacon and blends of different vegetables create such a fun and tasty breakfast. Perfect for those weekends when we sleep in and fuel our body with those delicious foods we don’t have time to enjoy during our hectic week. Bacon and Vegetable Slice is similar to a breakfast casserole or quiche.

Bring this dish and surprise your friends with all the cooking you have been doing during quarantine. Spread the love through bacon and veggies with the ones you love most. Adding a layer or either homemade crust or pre-made pie crust adds that perfect crunch you are looking for! Add a little more cheese with the crust and you have your own version of a Quiche. Adding the crust is still perfect for enjoying at breakfast or can even be served at dinner with a side salad.

Why I Love Bacon and Vegetable Slice?

Such a simple recipe has so much to love about it. Just a few reasons are:

  • It’s got bacon in it. Any bacon lover knows that adding it to a dish makes it special.
  • This recipe is versatile. From switching out vegetables to cheeses, you can customize it based on your taste or what you have on hand.
  • It’s healthy, allowing you to get your kids (and adults!) to eat their vegetables.
  • The recipe is excellent to serve with breakfast, lunch, and dinner! It’s also a great snack during the day or on movie night.
  • You can eat this cold, hot, or anywhere in between, and it’s still delicious, making it portable if needed.
  • You can make this without the pork bacon. Try turkey bacon, ham, or other salty meat to make it even healthier or for a delectable change.

How to Serve Bacon and Vegetable Slice?

Just when you think you can’t make this recipe better, toppings and dip come along to prove you wrong. The recipe can be served as-is by the slice, or you can add:

  • Salsa
  • Sour Cream
  • Extra Cheese
  • Hollandaise Sauce
  • Eggs
  • Hot Sauce
  • Coffee

Bacon and Vegetable Slice Cooking Tips:

Although this recipe is easy, here are some tips so you can get a perfect bake every time:

  • Not everyone has self-rising flour in their pantry. If your only option is all-purpose flour, add ½ cup of flour and 1 tsp of baking powder. Make sure you combine these two ingredients before moving on with the recipe.
  • If you’re using vegetables with a high water content, like zucchini, grate it and then strain by pressing it into a colander or squeezing it in cheesecloth.
  • Grate your own cheese if possible. It melts beautifully and has a nice, strong flavor this way.

Variations of Bacon and Vegetable Slice:

Variations make this dish especially fun since you can change it up every time you make it! Try switching up:

  • Veggies! Corn, mushrooms, leeks, onions, spinach, jalapenos, potatoes, or just about anything you have on hand!
  • Meat is easy to switch out, especially if you’re trying to use up some leftovers like cooked chicken or deli meat. Depending on the meat, you don’t have to omit the bacon. It can be complimentary alongside different meats.
  • Spice things up! Try different herb combinations for new flavor profiles every time.
  • Make it saucy with mustard, barbecue, or your favorite hot sauce.
