Make Simple Christmas Crack Saltine Toffee

I remember the first time that someone told me about Christmas Crack. It made no sense at all. How could this dessert made with saltine crackers taste good? But as soon as I had my first bite, I knew it was going to be something I made every holiday season.

Christmas Crack is saltine crackers that are made into toffee, then it is covered with chocolate and other goodies. It then gets broken into pieces and this makes the saltine toffee.

Variations on Saltine Toffee

With a basic Christmas Crack recipe, you start with the saltine, butter, sugar, and chocolate. Then you can add in different toppings and such to have variations on saltine toffee.
  • Different Chips: You can use peanut butter chips or caramel chips or whatever other kinds of chips you like. Check out some of the other flavored chips that are sold.
  • Candies: You are not stuck with just MMs. You can use Reeces Pieces, chopped up candy bars, or whatever kind of candy you like including sprinkles.
  • Get Creative: You can add whatever kind of things you want when it comes to making this toffee. Look around at what kind of delicious things you can add to the top of your toffee.

How to Store Cracker Toffee

When you make this cracker toffee, you want to make sure you are storing it right. If not, it will go bad before you can eat it all. You will want to move the toffee to an airtight container or plastic storage baggie.

The cracker toffee can be kept at room temperature but if the chocolate starts to get soft, move it to the refrigerator. It will keep for about a week or so, but honestly, this dessert doesn’t last that long. NOt because it spoils but because it is so good, everyone is eating it.

How to Gift Saltine Crack

I love to give food as presents. It is one of my go to present idea for teachers, neighbors, and others. It makes a great gift because everyone loves a treat. So when I make a large batch of saltine crack, I like to make a double batch to give to friends. It is an easy thing to make and since everyone loves it, everyone loves the gift. You can give this as a wonderful present and dress it up in a special way.

  • Special Holiday Plastic Baggies: Especially during the holidays there are pretty decorative bags. These are a pretty and inexpensive way to give this. If you want something a little more decorative, try adding a bow.
  • Christmas Tins: Like the tins that you use to get with Christmas cookies in them, you can often find these to use for giving gifts. Many big box stores have them and also, you can sometimes find them at the dollar store. When I use these types of tins, I like to add a layer of parchment paper or wax paper on the bottom and in between the layers.

There are a lot of ways to pretty this up and maybe you have a special way you like to give food gifts. It doesn’t matter how you do it, people are going to love. You might want to have the recipe ready because they will ask for it.
