Thankfully, our New Orleans style BBQ shrimp recipe is easy and delicious.
While this dish isn’t truly barbecued, it creates a flavor that’s as close to the real deal as possible.
It’s also effortless to cook and will mix well with just about any food.

Who Invented BBQ Shrimp in New Orleans?
Chefs from the legendary Pascal’s Manale in New Orleans invented this dish in the 1950s. It was likely Pascal Radosta, the nephew of original owner Frank Manale, who created this recipe.
How to Serve New Orleans BBQ Shrimp?
We strongly recommend spooning your New Orleans BBQ shrimp directly onto a delicious rice mix. It goes particularly well with gumbo, another NOLA favorite!
Tips:
- Make sure you cook the shrimp thoroughly to avoid food-borne diseases
- Sprinkle a little seasoning on top as you cook
- Cook with your favorite bed dish, like rice, to blend the flavor
Variations:
- Add authentic BBQ sauce to the mix to give it more of a kick
- Skewer the shrimp and cook over an open flame
- Add peppers and onions to give it a nice kick
Ingredients:
- Shrimp
- Butter
- Garlic Cloves
- Hot Sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
- Beer
- Lemon
- Creole seasoning
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Butter chilled
How To Make New Orleans BBQ Shrimp:
Step 1. In a skillet over medium heat melt the butter. Add in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Step 2. Add in hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, beer, lemon juice, creole, salt, and pepper.
Cook until reduced by half.
Step 3. Add shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes a side until pink and cooked through.
Step 4. Reduce heat to medium low and stir in butter and salt to taste.
Serve immediately!
