Any berry flavor works great, as does citrus fruit, with the help of concentrated flavors you can find in frozen orange juice, lemonade, or limeade.

Those who like their soft serve ice cream to be a bit thicker can add heavy cream to the recipe. Pour a small quantity at a time into the blender to get the thickness that pleases your palate.
Of course, since Cool Whip includes skim milk, this recipe is not dairy-free. However, it is easy to change it into a dairy-free recipe. All you need to do is substitute the milk and heavy cream with a dairy-free option.

Tips for Success
Make sure the pineapple juice is well chilled before making this recipe. If it is too warm, it can make the soft serve ice cream softer than desired. Also, since I prefer licking my ice cream rather than chewing it, I like the pineapple chunks to be frozen solid and then pureed into the tiniest bits. Starting with well-frozen pineapple ensures the soft serve ice cream is chilled correctly and remains frozen a bit longer in the cone or dish.

Storage & Reheating
Like soft serve ice cream from the neighborhood stand, this soft serve ice cream is best when freshly made, but it freezes easily and well. That’s why I often make a double batch and store the extra in a plastic tub or individual serving-size containers.
Serving Suggestions
If you don’t have a piping bag, simply scoop the ice cream from the blender into the serving containers. The piping bag is mostly for decorative purposes since it allows you to add swirls as you put the soft serve ice cream into the containers.
Notes
We sometimes enjoy making a Cool Whip Flip. All this entails is pouring some pineapple juice into a tall glass and then adding the Pineapple Soft Serve Ice Cream. Consider it a root beer float without the root beer.More Ice Cream Recipes
