Ingredients:
For the cookies:
- Butter
- Granulated sugar
- Vanilla extract
- All-purpose flour
- Salt
- Sprinkles
For the icing:
- Milk
- Confectioners sugar
- Food coloring
How to make Thumbprint Cookies:
Step 1. Mix the butter, granulated sugar and vanilla extract, and salt together in a bowl.
Then add the all-purpose flour.
Step 2. In another mixing bowl, combine the butter-sugar, and vanilla, and beat until fluffy.
Step 3. Add the flour mixture into the mixing bowl, and blend until a thick dough forms.
Step 4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for an hour.
Step 5. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
Step 6. Roll the dough into 4 dozen balls.
Step 7. Press the balls of dough into the sprinkles.
Step 8. Using your thumb or another utensil, push down on the center of each cookie ball to form an indentation in the middle.
Step 9. Bake for 10 minutes, remove from the oven, press the indentation into the center of each cookie again, and continue baking for another 8-10 minutes.
Step 10. Let the cookies cool to room temperature.
Step 11. Mix together the ingredients for the icing, using the food coloring of your choice, and pipe the icing into the center of each cookie. Let sit overnight before serving.
