Whiskey Walnut Blondies

If you’ve never tried any kind of walnut blondies, now is a perfect time.

I promise when you bite into one of these walnut blondie brownies, you are going to be hit with a delicious flavor and an aroma that is unbeatable. The crunchy walnuts go perfectly with the Jameson Whiskey. Who would have thought you could add whiskey to brownies and make them even better? Let me just say this is one of my best brownie recipes ever. And you all know how much I love brownies

I was planning an adult party a couple of years ago when I was inspired to make brownies, but I wanted them to be different. I didn’t want some traditionally flavored chocolate brownies, while I love those, I wanted something unique and special. That’s when I started looking into brown butter blondies.

Adding whiskey takes them to a whole new level, and I’m so glad I tried it out. I’ve been making these brownies for a couple of years now, and I don’t see myself ever stopping.

What Type of Whiskey To Use

For these whiskey walnut blondies, I used Jameson Whiskey. We just really love the flavor of Jameson Whiskey, and that is why it was our go-to flavor. You could actually use any kind of whiskey that you like. Crown Royal, Jim Beam, and even Jack Daniels would be great options to try. Be sure to let us know what kind of whiskey you like the best so we can try it too.

Storing Blondie Brownies

It doesn’t matter if you go ahead and cut the brownies up at once or if you wait and leave them intact. It’s more important that they are kept airtight than anything else. The whiskey walnut blondies will last up to five days in an airtight container. You can store them at room temperature or place them in the refrigerator. It’s completely up to you and whatever you like is perfect.

Can You Freeze Leftover Blondies

Yes, you can easily freeze these walnut blondie brownies. I recommend cutting them into brownies and wrapping each one individually with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. This gives them each an added layer of protection and makes it easy to just grab one when you’re on-the-go. After you have all of the brownies wrapped up, go ahead and place them in a freezer-safe container with a tight-fitting lid or freezer-safe bag. Then when you’re ready to eat a brownie, you can just take it out of the freezer, let it defrost a little bit, and eat it. Or you can defrost in the refrigerator overnight.

The whiskey walnut brownies will actually last up to three months in the freezer.

Can I Leave The Walnuts Out

Of course! You can leave the walnuts out if you want to. We like adding the walnuts because they’re crunchy, and they just add some wonderful flavor to the whiskey blondies. You can leave them out altogether, or you could swap them for a different kind of nut. Pecans would also be a great option, as well. You could even use hazelnut or almonds if you wanted to.

Ingredients

I’m so excited to be sharing this homemade whiskey blondies recipe with you today.  Let’s take a look at the ingredients you’re going to need to whip up a batch.

  • One stick unsalted butter
  • 1 C packed dark brown sugar
  • One egg
  • 1/2 TSP salt
  • 1 TSP vanilla extract
  • 2 TBSP Jameson whiskey
  • 1 C all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 C roughly chopped walnuts

Glaze Ingredients:

  • 1/4 C unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 C brown sugar
  • 2 TBSP milk
  • 3/4 C powdered sugar
  • 1/4 C chopped walnuts

How to Make Brown Butter Blondies

First Step: Preheat your oven to 350 and line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.

Second Step: Brown your butter by melting it over medium heat on the stove and stir until it becomes a golden caramel color.

Third Step: Might take some time; just continue stirring the butter while it browns. Don’t stop stirring or it can burn the butter mixture.

Fourth Step: Pour the browned butter into the bowl of kitchen aid and add the brown sugar.

Fifth Step: Beat for about four minutes, until creamy. It sounds like a long time, but it will really help add texture and flavor to the blondies.

Sixth Step: Add the egg and beat again.

Seventh Step: Then, add the flour, salt, whiskey, and vanilla extract. Beat until combined.

Eighth Step: Fold in the chopped walnuts. Mix with a spatula.

Ninth Step: Spread out the mixture in your lined pan and bake for 25 minutes, or until edges begin to pull away from the sides of the pan.

Tenth Step: Once whiskey blondies are done, you can set aside to cool for 10 minutes.

Eleventh Step: Begin your glaze; in a small pot, bring the butter, brown sugar, and milk to a boil.

Twelfth Step: Once boiling, remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar. Pour on top of the blondies until completely covered.

Thirteenth Step: Sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top, set aside to cool completely.

Fourteenth Step: Cut the blondies and enjoy it!
