Instant Pot Angel Food Cake
Angel food cake is one of those desserts I grew up eating. We almost always had some type of angel food cake when we had a family get-together. As an adult, I knew I wanted to carry on the tradition and make angel food cake for my family too.
It’s common even in my house to make this instant pot angel food cake on a regular basis.
The biggest secret of all is starting this cake with a boxed cake mix. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s a huge time saver, and you can easily take the cake mix and make it even better by cooking it in the pressure cooker. Plus, adding homemade whipped frosting is easy and makes it even better than you can imagine.
I have been known to eat a spoonful of frosting whenever I make it, so I won’t judge if you do the same thing. 😉
What to Frost Angel Food Cake With
You could use a commercially prepared frosting if you wanted to, but I prefer to make my own homemade whipped frosting. The flavor is much better than store-bought, and the texture is insanely good too. Try it both ways to see what you like.
I recommend adding some fresh strawberries or any other fruit you like on top. There is nothing better than biting into a piece of fluffy angel food cake, with frosting and fresh fruit. PURE HEAVEN!
Variations To Recipe
- Add in your favorite sprinkles to the cake batter. It’s a fun and festive way to add even more vibrance to the cake.
- Drizzle in 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to the cake batter. Add some lemon zest on top of the whipped topping, and you will have a gorgeous, brilliant cake.
- Mini chocolate chips would be a great addition to the cake. Add 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips to the batter before cooking.
- After you frost the cake, sprinkle some toasted coconut on top. Yum!
- Mix in one or two teaspoons of vanilla or almond extract to the cake batter. It’s a fun way to add more flavor.
Best Way To Store Angel Food Cake
After the cake has cooled all the way, place the cake in a food container. Then place the container in the fridge, and it will last in there for 3-4 days. The instant pot angel food cake does need to be kept cold due to the frosting. If you skip the frosting or use something different, you can leave the cake at room temperature.
Does Angel Food Cake Freeze Well
Yep! You can freeze pressure cooker angel food cake. Let it cool, wrap it in plastic wrap or foil, and put it inside of a freezer bag or container. You don’t need to frost the cake and can frost it right before you serve the cake. Defrost the cake in the fridge before serving.
