This has always been a favorite from the time that I was growing up. Mom used to make this mainly for those times when friends or family would come to visit. However, there were times when she would make it for us at home. Those days were the best. Now that I have a family, I understand why.

It takes longer to make this 7 Layer Dip than it does to have it all eaten. That is just how good this dip is!

The 7-layer dip can be used on tortilla chips, crackers, eaten plain or like my brothers, smearing it on bread eat. This 7 Layer Dip has been around for many years. Of course, it does seem that everyone has their own version of the dip also.

This is one that I absolutely love and I do not think it should be changed.

Do I have to use Guacamole as one of the layers?

It is possible to leave it out. However, you would not be able to say it is a 7 Layer Dip. Honestly, when all the layers are combined you have a slight taste of each layer, so even those that do not like Guacamole may not notice it.

Are there variations to 7 Layer Dip?

Sure! You could include Ground Beef, you could use diced tomatoes with Green chilis or you could use green olives or another type of Olive.

Ingredients:

  • Avocados
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Fresh chopped cilantro
  • Garlic powder
  • Salsa
  • Sour cream
  • Taco seasoning
  • Diced tomato
  • Chopped green onions
  • Sliced black olives

How is 7 Layer Dip stored?

With all the different layers, it is best to store the 7-Layer Dip in the refrigerator until serving time.  Cover it tightly and place it on a flat surface in the refrigerator. You can store it for 3 days.

Can the 7 Layer Dip be frozen?

I do not advise freezing it. The Sour Cream and Cream Cheese layer will experience some separation when it thaws.

Does 7 Layer Dip need to be assembled in the order of the recipe?

It is best to layer the 7 Layer Dip in the order shown. The dip works best as a dip this way as the refried beans can hold the other items.
