The South generally has its own way of making foods taste fabulous! This Southern Fried Chicken recipe is no different. The coating on the chicken is crispy, crunchy, and super tasty. They did not stop at crispy and crunchy, there is a bit of spice in the coating that makes you want to keep eating.

It is not an overwhelming amount of spice though. It is just enough to enhance the flavor of the chicken and enjoy the crispy coating.

Variations

You can leave the spice out if you are not a fan of hot foods like that. You could use the coating as a double dip to make the chicken extra crunchy. You could add more spice to the breading mix or a drop or two of hot sauce in the egg mixture for the coating.

Ingredients:

  • Boneless skinless chicken tenderloins
  • Buttermilk
  • Self-rising flour
  • Salt
  • Pepper to taste
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Oil for frying

How do you make Southern Fried Chicken Recipe:

Step 1. Place the chicken tenderloins into the buttermilk, and soak for at least an hour.

Step 2. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk.

Step 3. Mix together the eggs and milk in a bowl.

Step 4. Mix together the flour, salt, and pepper, and divide it evenly onto two plates.

Step 5. Dip the chicken in the egg mixture.

Then the flour, and the egg mixture again.

Then coat it with a final layer of flour.

Step 6. Heat an inch or two of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat on the stove.

Step 7. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.

How can I store the Chicken?

When the chicken has cooled completely, you can place it into a Ziploc bag, or into an airtight container. The Southern Fried Chicken can be stored for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.

The Southern Fried Chicken should be thawed in the refrigerator overnight. Preheat the oven to 350* and place the chicken on a baking tray, you could cover the chicken with foil if you choose to. Place the tray in the oven for 10 minutes. You could reheat the chicken in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes per piece until the desired temperature is reached.
