Why do I love this recipe?
This recipe is quick and easy to make and is a fun twist to classic grilled cheese. If you love Mexican food and grilled cheese you have to try this recipe.

Is a taco a sandwich?
A taco is not a sandwich but it has a similar concept. The corn tortilla is the shell, whereas on a sandwich you would use bread as the base.
What cheese goes best with tacos?
You will find a Mexican cheese blend is what many use for tacos. A finely shredded cheese is going to give you the best texture. You could always use sharp cheddar cheese if you wanted.

Why does my grilled cheese always stick?
If your grilled cheese is sticking to the pan, you need to add cooking spray to your pan. If you don’t have cooking spray add a layer of oil on a paper towel or even add a little butter.
I like to use a nonstick pan for this taco sandwich recipe, as it is going to prevent the bread from sticking.

How do you melt the cheese and keep it liquid?
Allowing the taco grilled cheese to sit in the pan as it is toasting the bread is how the cheese is going to melt on the sandwich. It is important to get that nice golden brown color on the bread. It allows more time for the cheese to melt.
For another delicious sandwich try this grilled turkey and cheese sandwich for an easy lunch or dinner option.
Is it better to butter the bread or pan for grilled cheese?
You will want to butter the bread and grease your pan. Another option for adding to the bread is mayonnaise. Instead of butter, you would add a layer of butter to the bread and it will toast up the same way the butter would.
Do you oil the pan when making grilled cheese?
You can grease the pan with cooking spray or butter. That is up to you on what you would like.
Variations
- Instead of ground beef use turkey.
- Use a packet of taco seasoning instead of using a mixture of spices for the recipe.
- Guacamole is optional.
- Change up the type of bread you use for this taco sandwich.
- Instead of butter slab on some mayonnaise for crisping up the bread, it will for sure give you a crispy texture just like butter.
Taco Grilled Cheese Sandwich storing and reheating instructions
You will find the taco grilled cheese is best eaten fresh. If you are planning to eat the sandwich later, try to keep the meat separate and then assemble and cook the sandwich right before eating.
If your sandwich is assembled store it in the fridge for 1-2 days. Then reheat as you would like. It will have a soggy style of bread.
Taco Grilled Cheese Sandwich freezing instructions
It is recommended to not freeze this sandwich as it will not hold up when thawed after it is frozen.
Can I make this Taco Grilled Cheese Sandwich in advance?
No, you need to assemble the sandwich and cook it right before you eat. Do not make this in advance as it will make the bread soggy.
Now you can prep the meat mixture in advance. Then just store the meat in the fridge for 1-2 days.
