Why I Love 10-Minute Creamy Garlic Shrimp
- The dish can be made quickly and easily.
- The ingredients are readily available.
- The dish can be made less rich with various options to substitute for the heavy cream.
Do you cook shrimp with butter or oil?
You can use butter or oil to cook shrimp. The butter will give it a slightly salty flavor, which will complement the taste of the shrimp. If you use oil, rather go for one with a neutral taste, such as sunflower,
What can I use instead of heavy whipping cream?
The basis of any substitute for heavy whipping cream is milk. You will need to combine the milk in equal quantities with butter, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese or olive oil. You can also use evaporated milk, or even condensed milk, although it is much sweeter than heavy cream. Another alternative is to mix cornstarch with milk.
How to serve 10 Minute Creamy Garlic Shrimp
Serve creamy garlic shrimp in a round dish, garnished with fresh basil leaves.
Fill a dish halfway with mashed potatoes. Use a spoon to create a well in the middle of the potato. Ladle the garlic dish into the middle of the ‘well’ and serve it together.
Cooking Tips:
- Make sure the oil in the pan is very hot before adding the shrimp, and sear the shrimp quickly on both sides before sauteing.
- Add the cream to the sauce in a steady stream and mix the whole time. Keep mixing while the sauce is thickening.
- Make sure the plate is on low when you add the parmesan cheese and before you add the shrimp.
Variations:
- Saute the shrimp in oil and then a bit of butter. Create the sauce separately, then serve the dish in two parts that can be combined by individual diners.
- Substitute the heavy cream with coconut cream, which will give the shrimp dish a more tropical taste.
- Add some diced bacon, to create a hybrid dish with a slightly salty taste.

- Olive oil
- Shrimp
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Butter
- Minced garlic
- Chicken broth or white cooking wine
