Chocolate Chip Pancake Ingredients
For this easy recipe all you need in some pantry staple ingredients, and chocolate chips!
- All-purpose flour – Normal all purpose flour is perfectly acceptable for pancakes. If you want an extra delicate pancake try pastry or gluten free flour.
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Sugar – white granulated sugar makes the fluffiest pancakes while brown sugar adds extra flavor, the choice is yours.
- Milk – whole milk or even cream can be used. 2% or skim milk work as well but the flavor is not as rich.
- Egg
- Butter – unsalted butter is all you need for this recipe. If you are using salted butter be sure to adjust the amount of extra salt added.
- Vanilla extract – If you have it, use real vanilla extract, the difference in flavour between real and artificial is night and day.
- Chocolate chips – any kind you like! Dark, milk, semi-sweet, white chocolate, butterscotch chips, try them all!
Pancake Variations
- Fun Toppings – Make this breakfast a fun family event by providing a bunch of different toppings so everyone can make their own. Whipped cream. Strawberries, bananas, peanut butter, chocolate, sauce, or maple syrup are all great ideas.
- More chocolate – Go crazy and add a few different kinds of chocolate. Mix and match between dark, milk, semi-sweet, or white for an extra indulgent pancake.
- Gluten Free Pancakes – If you are looking to cut gluten out of your diet then use your preferred gluten free flour in place of all purpose flour.
Pancake Pro Tips
Here are some handy tips for making perfect chocolate chip pancakes every time.
- Don’t let the pan get too hot or the outsides and chocolate will burn before the center is cooked.
- Let the pancakes rest, stacked on a plate to keep them warm while you finish cooking the batch.
- Rest the batter for 5 minutes before cooking for fluffier pancakes.
- Make sure your baking powder is fresh, old baking powder will not rise very well.
Leftovers and Storage
Let leftover pancakes cool to room temperature before storage. Place them in an airtight container or resealable freezer bag and store in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until just warmed through and serve with syrup or fresh toppings.
Freezer tips: Once the pancakes have cooled completely, seal them in a resealable freezer bag and keep in the freezer for up to 5 months. Thaw in the fridge before reheating.
