What to Serve with This Dish
Baked pasta is a great meal on its own but these ideas are great to serve with it:
- Cheesy Quick Biscuits Recipe
- Side salad
- homemade garlic bread
Don’t forget about dessert. Because honestly is there even such a thing as dinner without dessert. I’m just saying.
This Baked tortellini recipe is also great for giving to friends and family when they are recovering from being sick, surgery or after a baby is born. It is easy to heat and can be taken from the freezer to the oven on the same day. Not to mention it is so good, everyone will love it. Give it to a neighbor or friend just to make them smile for the day.
Variations to Baked Tortellini
What I love about this recipe is how easy it is to change around. Since there are many types of tortellini, like cheese, beef, chicken, spinach, you can mix and match the type of filling you want. Then you can also:
- Add shredded chicken
- Add ground beef, turkey or pork to the sauce
- Swap the type of cheese
- Use Alfredo sauce
- Add Veggies: SOmetimes I like to dice vegetables really small or grated to sneak some extra vegetables into this recipe. If you are sneaking the vegetables into the recipe, grate them and saute then for a few minutes to soften them. If you want to know the vegetables are there, dice them into small pieces and then cook until soft. Carrots, onions, and squash or zucchini are great in this pasta bake.
Another way to add variety to your pasta bake recipe is to change the type of tortellini. I have tried the chicken, beef, cheese, and tricolored tortellini. All of them work great with this recipe. Each of the tortellini gives the pasta bake recipe a different flavor. It is like making a different recipe each time I make it.
How to Store Easy Cheesy Tortellini Bake
After you make this easy cheesy tortellini, you might find that you have leftovers. It rarely happens but it could. If you find that you have extras to save for lunch the next day, you will want to make sure that it is stored in an airtight container or wrap the baking dish well with plastic wrap. This will help the tortellini stay fresh for several days.
How to Reheat Cheesy Pasta Bake Recipe
When you have leftovers of this recipe and want to reheat them, the best way is to reheat it in the oven. This gives the best flavor. It can be heated in the microwave as well. You might want to add extra pasta sauce to it when you are reheating it. Like all pasta, it soaks up the sauce and can make it taste dry when reheated.
Can Cheesy Tortellini be Freezer Meal
Yes. I love making freezer meals and this makes a great one. You can make the recipe up until the oven step and freeze it at that point or you can freeze the leftovers after the pasta has been baked. Either way, this makes a great dinner for the freezer. When you are ready to reheat the pasta or finish the baking process you will want to thaw it in the refrigerator first.
How to Know When Cheesy Tortellini is Done
When you are making tortellini you want to make sure you do not overcook it. If you overcook the tortellini it becomes mushy and does not taste good even when it is covered in cheese. For most tortellini, the package will give you the directions to give you an estimated time. The best way I have found to make tortellini is to boil the water. Make sure it is salted to give the pasta flavor. When you add the tortellini to the pot, it tends to sink. As the tortellini float to the top, it a signal that they are starting to be done. When the tortellini float, remove them from the water. I recommend a slotted spoon rather than dumping them in a strainer because the pasta can rip open and you lose the delicious filling.
