What is in a French Meat Pie?

The French Meat Pie is loaded with Ground Beef, Ground Pork, potatoes, onions, and a small variety of Spices.  I know of some families who make this with carrots and peas. That is similar to the Shepherd’s Pie that many of us are familiar with.

Are there any variations that I could use?

As stated some families will add in additional vegetables. You could use Gluten Free Pie Crust by making it using gluten-free products.

What is the best meat to use?

As the recipe calls for, it is best to use a combination of Ground Beef and Ground Pork. The combination is a good portion of what makes the savory flavor in the Meat Pie.

What to Serve with Meat Pie

  • A green salad dressed with vinaigrette
  • Roasted or steamed vegetables, such as carrots, Brussels sprouts, or green beans
  • Creamy mashed potatoes
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Gravy
  • Pickles or chutneys

Can I make this French Meat Pie in advance?

You can make this dish in advance. I do recommend that you make and store the pie crust separate from the filling. You can store the food in the refrigerator or the freezer.

How should I store the French Meat Pie?

When the French Meat Pie has cooled to room temperature, you can wrap it tightly or place it in an airtight container. You can then store it in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.

Can I freeze the French Meat Pie?

The unbaked French Meat Pie can be frozen by wrapping it tightly and placing it in the freezer for up to 2 months. If you need to freeze the pie after serving part of it or after baking it, wrap it tightly and place it in an airtight container. Be aware that when the Meat Pie thaws, the crust will likely not be as solid. There will be a distinct texture difference in the crust.
