Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
There are a few ways you can alter this recipe even going for a healthy grandmas blueberry glazed biscuits version or another option entirely, like the 7-up biscuit. The following is a look at what you can swap out for variations on my grandma’s version:
Blueberries: While the name implies you must use blueberries, they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Instead, you can use any fruit, including raspberries, strawberries, apples or even blackberries. As an additional tip, you can even use cinnamon for a bit more flavor! Don’t let my grandma know I told you that!
Buttermilk: If you don’t have any on hand, you can make some by combining a cup of plain yogurt or sour cream with water or milk to thin. You can also use a milk and apple cider vinegar mixture.
Butter: If you are trying to watch your butter intake, you can substitute this for vegetable canola oil, shortening or margarine. Healthier options include mashed avocado, nut butters or coconut oil.
Baking Powder: You can also sub out baking powder for plain yogurt and baking soda.
How To Make it, Grandma’s Blueberry Glazed Biscuits:
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 400˚F and grease a large oven-proof skillet. This is the beginning of this simple grandmas blueberry glazed biscuits meal. More to come!
Step 2. In a large bowl, add small pieces of butter to a large bowl. Add flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Set the butter out to soften a bit, but not too much. You want it a bit mushy but not melted.

Use your hands to combine all of the ingredients together. Now we know why our grandmas were always coated in flour!

Step 3. Add buttermilk (or milk and apple cider vinegar mixture) to the flour mixture and mix until well combined.

Gently fold through frozen blueberries to flour mixture.

Step 4. On a floured work surface, flatten out the dough. Using a 3” biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits from the dough.

Step 5. Place biscuits inside the greased skillet and put them into the oven. Bake for 30 minutes or until turning golden.
Step 6. While biscuits cook, make the glaze by combining all ingredients in a small bowl. (My favorite part)!

Step 7. Once the biscuits are out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the top of them and serve. You can thank me later!

Tips for Success
To keep your biscuits nice and fluffy, avoid overworking the dough during preparation. Overworking leads to more gluten development, which in turn makes the biscuits dense and tough. Avoid this. Instead, mix until the wet and dry ingredients come together, and the dough is still a little crumbly. You can also fold instead of kneading to create flaky layers.
Another tip for success is to use a sharp cutter so that you will slice cleanly through the dough. This will prevent the edges from being pressed down or sealed. Don’t twist the cutter either, just push straight down, then pull straight up. When you twist, biscuits might not rise evenly. Follow these tips and this quick grandmas blueberry glazed biscuits recipe will quickly become your favorite!
Storage & Reheating
Homemade grandmas blueberry glazed biscuits ideas include properly storing and reheating these family favorites! The blueberry glazed biscuits can be placed in an airtight container and stored on the counter for 2 to 3 days. You can place them in the refrigerator for up to 5 days in a sealed container to keep them fresher.
You can freeze these biscuits or store them in the freezer. Generally, it is best to freeze them before the glaze is poured over the top of the biscuits. When freezing, they can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
When you get them out and want to reheat and enjoy, cover the biscuits with foil and place them on a baking tray. Put them in a preheated 325-degree oven for around 5 minutes or until heated through. Obviously, if you freeze them, you might want to let them thaw before doing this.

Serving Suggestions
These easy grandmas blueberry glazed biscuits for beginners are ideal to pair with a variety of dishes. You can serve them alone as breakfast or pair with eggs, bacon or even a tater tot breakfast casserole. You can also serve this as a delicious dessert or snack throughout the day. There really is no time that this amazing recipe doesn’t make sense.
