Are you supposed to eat the shell of Hawaiian shrimp?

No. The shrimp shell should never be consumed as it is uncomfortable to chew and hard to swallow and digest. It may have all the flavor desired but could be harmful to some.

Does cooking shrimp with shell on add flavor?

Yes. Cooking shrimp adds more flavor and keeps its initial shape when peeled. To keep from wasting the shells, you can reuse them in another dish to add flavor, such as in a bisque.

How to serve Hawaiian Shrimp?

The most common way of serving Hawaiian shrimp is by itself and served on a tray with toothpicks. Another method is serving it over pasta or rice. Hawaiian shrimp will always complement a perfect steak as a side dish.

Cooking Tips:

  • Shrimp is easy to overcook. Take caution, and do not cook for more than four to five minutes per side. Over-cooked shrimp will turn chewy and hard.
  • Go easy on the seasoning. You can season according to taste. It is better to start with not enough and add as you go.
  • Go easy on the salt. Shrimp is a salt-water seafood and contains a high content from the ocean.

Variations:

There are different ways to cook Hawaiian shrimp. Hawaiian garlic shrimp is a favorite. It just calls for more garlic. Garlic is potent, so be careful and choose an excellent Hawaiian garlic shrimp recipe. Another way to add a more tropical flavor is by adding pineapple to the ingredients.

How much does Hawaiian Shrimp last on the fridge?

Once the shrimp is cooked, it can stay in the fridge for about three days if it is adequately sealed. It can stay fresh for about three to four months if it is in the freezer with an air-tight seal.

Can I make ahead Hawaiian Shrimp?

Yes, you can make the preparations for Hawaiian shrimp ahead of time. Once seasoned, it must go into an air-sealed container or ziplock bag sealed thoroughly. It is safe to store in the fridge for no more than two to three days.
