Great for a Snack – Mini Pizza Bites Pretzels

When you are looking for a game day snack or appetizer or even just a movie night snack, these mini pizza bites pretzels are great for any time. These pizza bites are perfectly poppable and dippable, not only is it a tasty snack, it is an easy snack too. Make them for any occasion, and keep them in the freezer so you can skip the expensive store-bought snacks.

Variations on pepperoni pizza bites

What I love about these pepperoni pizza bites is that I can change things around. Here are just a few ways to change these pepperoni pizza bites:

  • Skip the Pepperoni: I know, these are pepperoni pizza bites, but that doesn’t mean you can’t turn it into something else. Use ground beef, cut up sausage or ground sausage, ground chicken, shredded chicken, even pineapple and ham. Basically, whatever you like on your pizza, you can stuff inside this pretzel crust.
  • Change up the Sauce: While I am dipping this in marinara sauce or pizza sauce, you can use cheddar cheese sauce or alfredo sauce, or even just ketchup or mustard.

Do I have to salt the pretzel crust?

When you are making this pretzel crust, most people like to put salt on the crust. This is because the salt brings out the salt flavor. However, you do not need to add salt to the pretzel crust. If you do not like salt or are trying to reduce your sodium intake, you can skip the salt.

Can you freeze these mini pizza bites?

I like to make these mini pizza bites, bake them and then have them in the freezer to reheat them later. This is a simple way to have these mini pizza bites on hand whenever I need a simple and fast snack.

How to Make Pretzels into Pizza Bites

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, mix together the water, sugar, yeast, and butter. Let sit for 5 minutes.

Add the salt and flour to the yeast mixture. Knead dough at medium speed until a smooth and elastic ball forms, 3 to 4 minutes. If dough is sticky, add 1 tablespoons of flour at a time until dough comes together.

Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled large bowl and turn the dough to coat with the oil. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 21 inch rope. Cut the dough into 3-inch pieces to make the pretzel bites.

Roll each bite flat with a rolling pin.

Stuff with pepperoni and cheese.

Fold over the dough and pinch the ends. Place on a baking sheet and continue until all pretzel bites are stuffed.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add the baking soda and lower heat to a simmer. Carefully boil pretzels in batches. Boil for about 30 seconds.

Remove with a large slotted spoon. Place pretzel bites on a parchment paper lined baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Brush the tops with the egg wash and season liberally with the salt. Place into the oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown.
