I would imagine that you could easily use a dry white cake mix instead of the yellow cake mix. These bars are quite simple with just a few ingredients. Not much to vary within the recipe. You could add fruit toppings for a variety.
How Do You Serve Ooey Gooey Bars?
Cut ooey gooey bars right out of the oven after cooling, and serve them as a dessert. Add a dollop of whipped cream, if you like, or even some peanuts to give it more crunch.
Ingredients:
For the crust:
- Yellow cake mix
- Butter
- Egg
Gooey layer:
- Cream cheese
- Eggs
- Powdered sugar
How to make ooey gooey butter bars?
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F/175°F.
Step 2. Mix the cake mix with the butter and the egg until smooth and well combined.
Step 3. Take to a 9×13 baking pan, and press evenly over the bottom. Reserve.
Step 4. Beat the cream cheese and add the eggs to another bowl. Beat for one minute, or until you get a smooth consistency. Then, add the powdered sugar and beat until well combined.
Step 5. Pour over the crust and take to the oven for about 30 minutes. When it’s done, let cool completely before cutting.

Ingredients
FOR CRUST:
- 1 box yellow cake mix, dry- not prepared
- 8 Tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 egg
GOOEY LAYER:
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 16 oz. powdered sugar

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a medium bowl, combine cake mix, melted butter and egg. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Pat and press dough evenly over the bottom of a greased 9×13 baking pan. Set aside.
- In a separate large bowl, beat and cream the cream cheese. Add the eggs and beat until smooth for a minute or two. Add powdered sugar and continue to beat until well combined.
- Pour over crust and bake at 350 degrees F for about 25-30 minutes or until done. Do not over bake.
- When done, remove from oven and let cool completely before cutting into.

How should these bars be stored?
Place the bars in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also leave the bars on the counter, as long as they are covered tightly, for up to 2 days.
Can I freeze the Ooey Gooey Bars?
Once the bars have cooled completely to room temperature they can be placed in a freezer-safe container. You can store them in the freezer for up to 3 months. Place them in the refrigerator overnight to thaw.
Can I reheat these to eat warm?
I would suggest placing them in the microwave on a plate and covered with a napkin. You could heat on 20-second bursts until desired temperature is reached.
