What is Praline?

Pralines are delicious candies that are classic New Orleans treats. They are made of pecans, brown sugar, and butter, and they taste like caramelized nuts with a kind of creamy texture. These snacks have French origins, since settlers in New Orleans adapted recipes for caramelized almonds to create the New Orleans praline.

How to serve Praline Crunch?

This recipe should be served as a snack, probably offered in large bowls so that you and your family can dig in with your hands. It is perfect for parties and watching sports or even as a lunchbox treat.

Tips:

  • Be sure that you bring the sugar syrup to a full rolling boil before you remove it from the heat.
  • Use a saucepan that is large enough so that the boiling mixture does not boil over, leaving you with a big mess to clean up!
  • When you toss the cereal with the sugar syrup, choose a bowl that is twice as large as needed to contain the cereal so that you can easily toss it to coat it.

Variations:

If you want to get creative in cooking Praline Crunch, you can create your own variations. Add a pinch of cinnamon to the sugar syrup to create a cinnamon-flavored treat. You can also substitute another kind of nut for the pecans, like maybe walnuts or sliced almonds.
