Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
Shrimp: Choose raw shrimp that’s been deveined and peeled for the best results. This will ensure a restaurant-style texture once this recipe is complete.
Minced garlic: You can swap traditionally minced garlic for pre-minced garlic in a jar, garlic powder, or even garlic paste, depending on your preferences.
Cilantro: If you do not like the taste of cilantro, feel free to omit it entirely.
Seasonings: From chili powder to paprika, this mix offers a deliciously spicy, yet savory and smoky taste. If you want to make it your own, you can do so by testing different amounts of the flavors each time you cook your shrimp. Just take notes of which seasonings you prefer more of and which you can do without, so you can save this recipe for years to come.
Jalapeño: If you don’t have any fresh jalapeños available, you can swap them for cayenne pepper or another spicy seasoning you prefer. This also goes for those who do not like the texture of jalapeños!
Yogurt: If you do not have any yogurt on-hand for the crema sauce, consider swapping it for sour cream. While this may change the flavor a bit, you will still get the sour, tangy taste, which you may even like better than using traditional yogurt.

Tips for Success
I highly suggest using raw shrimp (peeled and deveined) for the best results. Using pre-cooked shrimp will more than likely change the texture of this quick spicy shrimp tacos with avocado cream recipe too much. Overcooking pre-cooked shrimp results in a tough, rubbery texture. Stick with raw. It only takes 5-10 minutes to cook this dish once it’s prepared!
Storage & Reheating
You can store this simple spicy shrimp tacos with avocado crema meal for up to 3-4 days in your refrigerator with the right airtight container or Tupperware. Freezing this is another option for up to 2 months in an airtight container (while freezing the shrimp on its own).
To reheat, remove the shrimp from your refrigerator or freezer and thaw or allow it to come to room temperature. Place shrimp on a skillet over medium to warm for 4-5 minutes, or until it’s hot again. You can also reheat the shrimp in the microwave for 30 to 60 seconds. Be sure not to overcook the shrimp, to preserve its original natural texture.
Serving Suggestions
These tacos are amazing to serve during the week and even as a weekend treat. I highly recommend serving them with additional coleslaw or a basic green salad. You can also get creative and try serving these tacos with our honey butter skillet corn, creamy corn pudding, or even a green veggie, such as Italian green beans! You can find plenty of sides that pair perfectly with these tacos!
Notes
Always try to use raw shrimp when preparing these shrimp tacos for the best results. Pre-cooked shrimp will likely taste too rubbery. You can add or remove seasonings to your liking, making this healthy spicy shrimp tacos with avocado crema version your own. With a bit of tweaking, you’ll make this family friendly spicy shrimp tacos with avocado crema a big hit in your home in no time!
