Variations for Taco Pizza
This recipe is so versatile that you can play with it as much as you want. You can add jalapeños, black beans, corn, and so much more. The toppings you add are totally up to you! Try something new each time you prepare this taco pizza!
Prepared pizza dough: You can make your own pizza dough from scratch, or choose the type of biscuit dough that works best for you!
Ground beef: You can replace the beef with ground sausage or ground turkey (especially if you’re after a healthy taco pizza version). Swapping the meat is recommended if you’re interested in a reduced fat version. You can always pat the grease when cooking with traditional ground beef and ground sausage after draining it for the best results.
Cheese: Try to play with different cheese combinations like cheddar, feta cheese, and pepper jack. You can even top this pizza with goat cheese if you’re seeking unique homemade taco pizza ideas!

How to Make It
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. While your oven is preheating, you can prepare the ingredients for this taco pizza to save time.
Step 2. Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until it is completely browned. Drain any grease the ground beef produces. This will ensure your taco pizza isn’t too greasy or filled with unwanted liquid and fat. You can dab the grease with a paper towel or pour it into a glass jar.

Step 3. Add the taco seasoning to the ground beef and sauté for a few minutes longer.
Step 4. Combine the refried beans and Pico de Gallo or salsa in a bowl and stir to combine.

Step 5. Spread the bean mixture out in an even layer over the prepared pizza crust.

Step 6. Top the bean mixture with the meat.

Step 7. Sprinkle the cheese on top, and bake for 10-12 minutes until the cheese is completely melted.

Step 8. Top the pizza with the shredded lettuce, tomatoes, green onions, sour cream, and any other toppings you desire before serving. Enjoy!

Tips for Success
- Before you spread your topping on the dough, get rid of that extra grease. It can make your dough soggy, and that’s something we don’t want. So, take a few paper towels and press out the extra oil from your beef.
- For that perfect crunch in the pizza, bake for about 10-15 minutes.
- Warm the refried beans before trying to spread them. You’ll save a lot of time.
Storage & Reheating
It’s a magical moment to have some leftovers of this delicious pizza. You’re lucky! Ours gets gobbled down in a blink of an eye. Anyway, before you store your pizza, cool it. Then cut it into squares. Now you can place these yummy bites in an airtight Tupperware or a huge Ziploc bag. It’ll remain for two days max.
When you’re ready to eat it, simply microwave it. Or maybe air fry for a crispier bite. Air fry at 350-400 degrees for just a minute or two, depending on the size of the serving you’re reheating.
You can freeze this taco pizza for up to 2 months in an airtight, freezer-friendly container.
Serving Suggestions
This taco pizza is a meal on its own. But for heavy-eaters, a few extra sides never hurt. You can try some tortilla chips with guacamole or a salad. I’ve tried it with some chicken nachos and easy Mexican rice. Absolutely delicious! You can also serve this pizza with a large garden salad, since it’s so rich in beefy, cheesy goodness by itself!
Notes
Create a “salad bar” with additional toppings that each of your family members can choose from once the base of the pizza is ready. You may use chopped tomatoes, lettuce, green onions, and sides of taco sauce or sour cream!
