Forget the traditional method that takes hours or using the premade store bought stuff that costs a lot for 8 little cinnamon rolls. For a small price and less time, these cake mix cinnamon rolls are amazing. And you can create a fun look like these tie dyed cinnamon rolls.
Can I Use Any Brand of Cake Mix?
It does not matter what brand of cake mix you use when making these cinnamon rolls. For a basic flavor that is most like traditional cinnamon rolls, you want to use french vanilla flavor. however, you can use yellow as well. If you wanted to try experimenting with different flavors you can create chocolate cinnamon rolls, lemon cinnamon rolls, and even strawberry cinnamon rolls.
What is the best Cinnamon Roll Icing?
With this recipe, you are making a basic sugar glaze. This is made using 3 ingredients, vanilla, milk, and powdered sugar. You can also make a cream cheese glaze for your cinnamon rolls. Another option is to use store bought cream cheese frosting. You can use it as it for a thick and creamy icing or you can thin it out using milk.
Can I Freeze Cake Mix Cinnamon Rolls
Just like regular cinnamon rolls and cakes, you can freeze these cake mix cinnamon rolls. Once the cinnamon rolls have cooled, you can more then to an airtight container. You can also use a freezer bag. I prefer to cut the cinnamon rolls into slices so that it is easier to take one piece out at a time instead of having to thaw the entire batch. I also like to freeze the cake mix cinnamon rolls before it goes into the container. I put them on a plate to let them freeze before moving them to the container. This lets the icing set and keeps the slices from sticking to each other.
Ingredients in Cinnamon Rolls Made with Cake Mix
- Yellow, Orange, Red, and Black sprinkle jimmies and Nonpareils.
- French Vanilla cake mix
- Flour
- Warm water
- Active dry yeast
- Canola oil
- Unsalted sweet cream butter
- Light brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Red and Orange gel food coloring
- Powdered sugar
- Pure vanilla extract
- Whole milk
How to Make Cinnamon Rolls from Cake Mix
Combine all sprinkles into a closed container and shake until combined.
Using a large mixing bowl, mix together the cake mix, flour, warm water, and yeast.
Mix until slightly combined
Once combined, place dough onto a floured surface and knead until combined and the dough bounces back after touching it
Split dough into two and add red gel food coloring into one dough. Knead until color is combined
Add the orange gel coloring into the second dough and knead until combined.
Place dough balls into their own large glass bowl and brush the 1 tbsp oil onto the top of the dough and sides of the glass bowl
Cover with a kitchen towel and let sit for an hour
Once the dough has doubled in size, combine the dough slightly by molding together then place dough onto floured surface and roll out to 1/8 inch
Brush melted butter onto the dough and sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar
Roll into a log and cut into rolls
Place rolls into a baking dish and cover again for another hour
Once the hour is up, preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Once oven is preheated, bake the cinnamon rolls for 30 minutes
Cinnamon roll icing directions :
Using a standing mixer, combine the powdered sugar, vanilla and whole milk together until smooth and creamy
Once the cinnamon rolls have been baked, remove from oven and drizzle the icing onto the cinnamon rolls
Sprinkle some of the incredible sprinkles onto the rolls
Allow cinnamon rolls to cool for about 15 minutes before enjoying!
