This dessert is easy to make and tastes great! This is one dessert that is guaranteed to turn out perfect every time. The dessert has a buttery, flaky crust and the filling tastes delightful, as Apple Pie does. Apple Pie is a Classic dish for dessert, however, we do not always have the time it takes to make the apple Pie.
This dessert gives the same dessert, with just a different appearance.

This is a handy dessert with none of the hassle of trying to get the pie crust perfect. If you are anything like me, Pie crust is a challenge. My pie crust ends up thick, no matter how thin I roll it. I, for one, am very thankful that I can purchase ready-made Pie crusts now.
This dessert is not only family-friendly, but it is also easier to make than the Classic Apple Pie.

Ingredients:
For the crust:
- All-purpose flour
- Granulated sugar
- Shortening
- Egg yolks
- Milk
- Egg whites
For the filling:
- Small Granny smith apples peeled and thinly sliced
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
For the glaze:
- Confectioners sugar
- Milk
- Vanilla extract
How to make Flaky Apple Pie Bars:
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Step 2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and 3 tbsp sugar. Use the tines of a fork to cut the shortening into the flour mixture until a loose crumbly dough has formed.
Step 3. Add the egg yolks and milk to a bowl and beat to combine.
Step 4. Pour the egg yolk mixture into the flour mixture and beat until a well-mixed dough has formed.
Step 5. Divide the dough in half, and press half of it into the bottom of a well-greased 9×13 baking dish.
Step 6. Place the apples on top of the layer of dough.
Step 7. Cover the apples in ½ cup granulated sugar.
Then, add ¼ cup brown sugar.
Then, add 1 tsp of cinnamon.
Step 8. Press the second half of the dough into a flat layer over the apples in the baking dish.
Step 9. Brush the top of the dough with the egg whites that have been beaten until frothy.
Step 10. Bake for 40 minutes and then allow to cool.
Step 11. Mix together the ingredients for the glaze until smooth, and pour over the bars before serving.

How should I store these Flaky Apple Pie Bars?
This dessert would be fine sitting on the counter for a few hours. However, for periods of time longer than a few hours it is best to store the Flaky Apple Pie Bars in the refrigerator. You can store these bars in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Can these Flaky Apple Pie Bars be frozen?
That is a great thing about these Flaky Apple Pie Bars, they can be frozen before baking, or after. Wrap with aluminum foil tightly and place in the freezer for up to 3 months. If you freeze before baking, set the Apple Pie Bars in a cold oven for 10 minutes, while remaining covered with foil. Then remove the foil and bake as directed.
Can I reheat the Flaky Apple Pie Bars?
These bars could be placed into a 325* oven and heated slightly. You could also place the bars on a plate and place in the microwave for 30 to 60 seconds.
