Apple Pie Bars are such a fun twist on a classic apple pie recipe!

Apple pie Recipe that guests can take for the road. Definitely going to make these again, I love this unique apple pie!

Flaky Apple Pie Bars

Prep Time: 25 minutes | Cook Time: 40 minutes | Servings: 8

Ingredients:

For the crust:

2 ½ C. All-purpose flour

2 Tbsp. Granulated sugar

1 C. Shortening

2 Egg yolks

½ C. Milk

2 Egg whites

For the filling:

8 Small Granny smith apples peeled and thinly sliced

½ C. Granulated sugar

¼ C. Brown sugar

1 tsp. Cinnamon

For the glaze:

1 ½ C. Confectioners sugar

3 Tbsp. Milk

1 tsp. Vanilla extract

How to make Flaky Apple Pie Bars:

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Step 2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and 3 tbsp sugar. Use the tines of a fork to cut the shortening into the flour mixture until a loose crumbly dough has formed.

Step 3. Add the egg yolks and milk to a bowl and beat to combine.

Step 4. Pour the egg yolk mixture into the flour mixture and beat until a well-mixed dough has formed.

Step 5. Divide the dough in half, and press half of it into the bottom of a well-greased 9×13 baking dish.

Step 6. Place the apples on top of the layer of dough.

Step 7. Cover the apples in ½ cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup brown sugar, and 1 tsp cinnamon.

Step 8. Press the second half of the dough into a flat layer over the apples in the baking dish.

Step 9. Brush the top of the dough with the egg whites that have been beaten until frothy.

Step 10. Bake for 40 minutes and then allow to cool.

Step 11. Mix together the ingredients for the glaze until smooth, and pour over the bars before serving.
