Why do I love this recipe?
This meal is so easy to make, simple yet comforting, and just the basics. This meal also needs very few ingredients.
What should I serve with the Hamburger Casserole?
This dish is perfect the way it is, however, some people believe that a serving of rice on the side is good. Others just add extra cheese and crumbled bacon to the top and call it perfect.
How long should I bake this casserole?
This casserole only needs about 30 minutes in the oven. Be sure that the beef is thoroughly cooked and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Can I use a different meat?
You certainly could. You can use a plant alternative type of meat, I know of some who have used ground chicken or even ground sausage for this dish and they swear it is even better.
What type of noodles should I use?
Elbow macaroni works great, I prefer the small shells, and I know many who prefer to use rotini. Whichever is the easiest or what you have available at the time is what you should use.
What type of cheese should be used?
Cheddar is the most common, it melts perfectly and tastes great in this dish. You could use mozzarella, gruyere or a combination of cheeses if you want.

THANKS FOR PINING!
Can I add vegetables to this casserole?
I have added corn to this before and the kids loved it. You could try onions and mushrooms, bell peppers, or even a can of black beans or kidney beans.
Can I add spice to the dish?
If you want to add some heat, feel free to add a pinch or two of crushed red pepper flakes. You could also add chili powder to this.
How can I store or freeze the leftovers?
The leftovers can be placed in an airtight container for up to three days. You could also put the casserole in the freezer before baking it. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator and then bake according to directions. Freezing would also work if you wanted to make the casserole in advance.
