Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

  • Skin-On Chicken: Thighs make the best Amish chicken recipe, though breasts can work in a pinch. White meat typically cooks better, but dark meat is healthier. Don’t like the skin? Buy them without!
  • Heavy Whipping Cream: Adding heavy whipping cream creates even more flavor for this already rich dish. Want something healthier for your easy Amish chicken for beginners? Try coconut cream or evaporated milk.
  • All-Purpose Flour: All homemade Amish chicken ideas need flour to help the chicken breading stick. You can also choose almond flour, oat flour, chickpea flour, or rice flour, depending on your dietary needs, for this simple Amish chicken meal.
  • Seasonings: Mix garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste for your simple Amish chicken meal. If you want a quick Amish chicken recipe without the traditional ingredients, try parsley or oregano for a healthy Amish chicken version.

Tips for Success

  • Keep your chicken at room temperature before cooking it to avoid issues.
  • Pat the fillets dry before cooking to help them bake better
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the interior hits 165 degrees inside
  • Let the chicken sit for a few minutes to truly retain its juices
  • Avoid opening the oven (even though it smells so good) to keep it at an even temperature

Storage & Reheating

Place your leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. It can also freeze for up to two months. Reheat in a baking dish at 350 degrees. An oven works best, though you can microwave this meal if you want.

Serving Suggestions

  • A side salad also complements this quick Amish chicken recipe
  • Serve a side of rice or pasta with gravy smothering everything for an easy Amish chicken for beginners that everyone will love

Notes

I’m not kidding when I said that kids love making this meal! Mine get really hands-on and dig right into it. There’s something about mixing together the flour that they really enjoy. Honestly, I think kids just like getting dirty.

Use this simple meal to teach them a little about cooking. It’s also a fun way to touch on Amish culture, as many children don’t know a thing about it. Educational and tasty? That’s a big win in my book!
