Ingredients:
- Fresh chopped chives
- Ground sausage
- Worcestershire sauce
- Sour cream
- Dried parsley
- Velveeta cheese
- Onion powder
- Cream cheese softened
- Garlic powder
- Monterrey jack cheese
- Ground sage
Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
Freshly chopped chives: These are optional, but you can swap them for green onions or omit them entirely if you’re not a fan of the texture or flavor.
Worcestershire sauce: Swap for soy sauce or coconut aminos if you don’t have any Worcestershire sauce or if you do not like the flavor.
Velveeta cheese: This one’s recommended as it melts perfectly when making dips. If you’re a fan of a different cheese, you’ll want to choose one that melts well. Always use freshly shredded block cheese when making dips. Prepackaged shredded cheese will not melt as well, but it may work in a pinch.
Monterey jack cheese: Replace with pepper jack or another cheese with a bit of spice for the best results!
Sour cream: I highly recommend keeping the sour cream for this dip. You may be able to use an unflavored organic yogurt in place of the sour cream if you do not have any on hand.
Ground sausage: You can omit the ground sausage entirely if you prefer your cheese dip without meat. Swap the ground sausage for beef if you’re going for a more beefy, taco-centric dip.

How to Make It
Step 1. Brown the sausage completely in a skillet over medium-high heat and drain any excess fat. Drain the fat every time you cook ground sausage to prevent your dip from becoming too full of liquid and grease.
Step 2. Heat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×9 baking dish well. You can also use a non-stick baking dish or pan to prevent the sticking of this dip!
Step 3. In a bowl, beat the sour cream and cream cheese together. I highly recommend setting your cream cheese out on the counter to warm to room temperature. Working with softened cream cheese is much easier.

Then, add parsley, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder.

Step 4. Stir in the Velveeta, sausage, chives, and Monterey jack cheese. You can add additional toppings at this time, such as bacon bits or even Parmesan cheese.

Mix well until smooth and well combined.

Step 5. Spread the mixture into the baking dish, and bake for 50-60 minutes.

Step 6. Serve with chips, crackers, or your favorite items for dipping.

Enjoy! If you’re looking for a last-minute appetizer that will surely please your guests, look no further than this healthy cheesy hissy fit dip version of a classic cheese dip recipe.

Tips for Success
For best results, be sure to use high-quality cheese in this recipe. A sharp cheddar or Gruyere would be a good choice. And if you really want to kick things up a notch, try using a mix of different cheeses for an extra-flavorful dip.
This dip can be served with just about anything, but some particularly good choices include crackers, pretzels, or breadsticks. It’s also delicious when spread on sandwiches or wraps.
Storage & Reheating
You can store this cheesy dip in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 4 days. Take the dip out of the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature for best results before serving it up again. I don’t recommend storing this dip in the freezer, as its texture may not be the same once it’s thawed.
If you want to heat this dip up, you can do so in the microwave using a microwave-safe bowl for 1 to 2 minutes, per serving. You can also place it back into the oven for 10 to 15 minutes at 300 degrees Fahrenheit, or until it’s warmed through.
Serving Suggestions
I highly suggest serving this dip on its own! It’s really that good. However, you can also mix it up a bit if you’re making this dip as a side to the best easy pot roast you’ve ever had, or even a chicken dish! You can serve this as a side next to this chicken taco soup recipe or the best Southern fried chicken recipe to try with your family! The sky is the limit when pairing this dip with main courses!
