This cubed steak recipe calls for using an onion soup mix as a base for the gravy. However, you can make your gravy and use fresh onions to make this dish, as well.
Ingredients:
- Cubed steak
- Flour
- Garlic salt
- Black pepper
- Vegetable oil
- Onion, sliced
- Beef broth
- Dry onion soup mix
How to make Cubed Steak with Onion Gravy:
Step 1. Combine flour, garlic salt, and black pepper in a pie plate or shallow dish.
Step 2. Dredge both sides of the cubed steak in a flour mixture.
Both sides.
Step 3. Heat oil in a large skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat.
Step 4. Add steak (cooking in 2 batches if necessary).
Step 5. Cook 5 minutes per side.
Step 6. Remove steak from skillet and set aside.
Step 7. If you want to thicken the gravy some, add a few teaspoons of leftover flour from dredging the steak to the drippings in the pan.
Step 8. Add onion, broth, and onion soup mix to the drippings in the pan.
Step 9. Use a wooden spoon to scrape up any browned bits stuck to the bottom of the pan.
Step 10. Bring to a simmer and cook until onions are soft.
Step 11. Return steak to the pan to warm.
Step 12. Serve with mashed potatoes.

Instructions
