How do you prepare a casserole to freeze?

You will prep the casserole as you would like you are going to make it. Leave the breadcrumbs off, and then cover them in aluminum foil. I tend to wrap two layers of foil on top of the casserole.

Then you will freeze for 3-4 months. When you want to eat, place in a cold oven and bake for 40 minutes with the foil on at 350 degrees. Then remove the foil and bake for another hour or until it is done. The last 20 minutes you will add breadcrumbs to the last bit of cooking.

Are the hash browns at chick fil gluten-free?

Yes, the hash browns from Chick Fil A are gluten-free naturally. Potatoes do not contain any gluten.

Should you bake a breakfast casserole before freezing?

You can freeze a breakfast casserole before cooking if the meat or protein is fully cooked. Now if your casserole has raw meat then you will want to cook it fully first.

I find that using raw eggs like a breakfast bake with eggs, then I would cook it first before I froze it as the eggs will hold up better baked fully then raw.

Why is my hash brown casserole soggy?

If your casserole is soggy you might need to bake it longer. The biggest thing is since you are mixing raw hash browns with the other ingredients it will stay softer and it won’t create crispy hash browns.

Variations

  • Leave out the vegetables in the recipe if you want just a classic hash brown casserole.
  • Skip the breadcrumbs and use crushed Ritz crackers, plain chips, etc.
  • Swap out the cheese with a Monterey cheese, pepper jack, etc.
  • Add in some diced chicken that is cooked or ground beef to make this a full dinner.

How to store and reheat Hashbrown Chicken Casserole?

Store your leftover hashbrown chicken casserole in the fridge for up to three days. Then you can reheat in the microwave or even in the oven.

If you heat in the oven preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cover the casserole with foil and heat until it is warmed through.

Can I freeze Hashbrown Chicken Casserole?

You can freeze any leftover hashbrown chicken casserole. Place in a freezer-friendly container and freeze for up to 3 months.

Can I make this recipe in advance?

You can prep this casserole the night before you want to cook it. Just leave off the breadcrumbs until you are ready to bake it in the oven. Just make sure it stays in a covered dish in the fridge until you are ready to bake.

Then add about 15-20 additional minutes to the bake time.
