Chicken breasts: If you’re not a fan of chicken breasts or if you prefer dark meat, you can swap the breasts for thighs and legs. You might also want to try this recipe with rotisserie chicken. However, if you do use a rotisserie chicken, you’ll likely only need to cook this recipe for a few hours, as opposed to 6 to 8—as the chicken will already be extremely tender and juicy.

Chicken gravy mix: Feel free to use canned chicken gravy if you do not have any powdered chicken gravy mix available

Fresh or frozen vegetables: While this isn’t necessary, adding veggies to your slow-cooked chicken will increase its nutritional value. You can add anything from frozen broccoli to corn, peas, and green beans. Adding a mixture of veggies will also provide a new layer of texture to enjoy.

Cream of chicken soup: This is the main base for this slow-cooked chicken. I highly recommend keeping it in. However, if you prefer a milder chicken base, you can swap it for cream of mushroom soup for similar results.

How to Make It

Step 1. Place the can of soup, water, onion powder, garlic powder, and water into the slow cooker. Stir well to combine. This will be the base in which your chicken cooks in. Ensure it’s well-mixed so all of your chicken takes on the same flavor.

Step 2. Add gravy mix packets and salt and pepper to taste into the slow cooker. Also stir this mixture well to combine.

Step 3. Add the chicken to the slow cooker and toss to coat in the sauce mixture. Ensure all the chicken has been covered or coated as best as possible during this step.

Step 4. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8. I highly recommend cooking this chicken on low, especially if you’re using chicken breasts. This will help tenderize the chicken without forcing it to cook too fast.

  • 2 c Water
  • 2 Packets chicken gravy mix
  • 1 ¼ tsp Onion powder
  • 1 ½ tsp Garlic powder

  • Fresh or frozen vegetables (optional)
