Ingredients:

  • Chuck roast
  • Dry Italian dressing mix
  • Dry Ranch dressing mix
  • Dry brown gravy mix
  • Water

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

Chuck roast: A classic chuck roast is always recommended when making a traditional roast. However, if you have other cuts of beef you prefer, you can also try them out by following the same steps this recipe calls for below. I highly recommend sticking with a traditional chuck cut of meat for the best results.

Italian dressing mix: You can use your own Italian seasonings if you don’t have Italian dressing mix on-hand. You can also omit the Italian dressing mix and double up on the brown gravy and/or dry Ranch mix, depending on your flavor preferences and your family’s favorite way of preparing a roast.

Ranch and brown gravy mix: I do not advise removing these form your ingredients. Both of these packets are what deliver the flavor to this super easy roast. Without them, your roast will be lacking in flavor. You can, however, swap the brown gravy mix for your own homemade gravy. Just be sure to make enough gravy that it covers and coats all of the roast.

Water: Refer to the Italian, Ranch, and brown gravy packets you intend to use to determine how much water will be needed for your roast. Not all flavor packets are created the same, so it’s essential to refer to the packet instructions to add enough water to the slow cooker.

How to Make It

Step 1. In a bowl, combine the Italian dressing mix, ranch dressing mix, and brown gravy seasoning with the water. Refer to each packet’s recommendations to add the appropriate amount of water necessary, as different brands may call for different amounts of water for mixing.

Step 2. Whisk to combine.

Whisk to combine well.

Step 3. You can choose to brown both sides of the chuck roast prior to placing it into the slow cooker. This helps it have a seared look when finished. This step is optional, however. Searing adds plenty of flavor to the roast. However, if you’re crunched for time, you can skip it.

Step 4. Place the roast into the slow cooker. Cover in the sauce mixture.

Step 5. Cook on low for 8 hours. I highly recommend cooking a roast on low for the best results. This allows the meat to cook thoroughly and fall apart, making it much juicier. If you’re crunched for time, you can cook this roast on high for 4 to 5 hours, but the texture may not be as soft and tender.

Now it’s ready to enjoy! This quick super easy pot roast recipe is truly that simple.

Tips for Success

Always read the packet instructions for your gravy, Italian dressing, and Ranch dressing so you’re using the right amount of water for this recipe.

Find a chuck roast that’s large enough to feed your own family and add packets of gravy and Ranch dressing, accordingly.

Do not skip the searing of your chuck roast. This adds an entirely new layer of flavor that simply cannot be beat.

A classic pot roast calls for classic sides, in my opinion. I love pairing my roast with veggies and oftentimes, even a potato dish! If you’re feeling up to it, try this roast with honey butter skillet corn, Italian green beans, or even Parmesan crusted asparagus fries! All of these are delicious. If you have a hankering for classic potatoes with your roast, try our Parmesan roasted red potatoes or our French onion roasted potatoes! Scrumptious!
