Why Do I Love Apple Fritters?
- Eating apple fritters or even smelling them cook calls up thoughts of fall, football, and state fair time. This food links to so many lovely memories.
- I love making apple fritters because it contains healthy ingredients and I can easily alter the recipe to contain no sugar.
- Apple fritters taste decadent, but take little time to make, especially when using canned apple pie filling.
Why are my apple fritters not crispy?
Apple fritters can turn out soggy for a few reasons. Typically, the frying oil temperature measures below 375 degrees. Using too little flour also causes a problem. Dust flour on top of the apple pie filling before rolling up the dough to prevent the filling from absorbing too much oil.
Are fritters made from dough or batter?
You can find versions of this apple fritters recipe prepared either way. Surprised? The original fritters used donut dough as their base. Today’s apple fritters use batter instead of dough to allow for quicker preparation. So, just as you can find recipes for both cake donuts and fried donuts, you can do the same with fritters of all kinds.
What makes batter crispier?
The same tricks that help fish batter crisp nicely can do the same with fritter batter. Place your flour in the refrigerator for an hour or so before using it in the recipe.
How to serve Apple Fritters?
Apple fritters offer the ideal complement to morning coffee or afternoon tea. They also offer an ideal dessert for cookouts, following hamburgers or steaks nicely. Serve plain or with ice cream.
Cooking Tips:
- Always use a whisk to blend your ingredients. This prevents chunks of ingredients from forming globs in your dough or glaze. Wash the whisk in between mixing the glaze and the batter or dough.
- Add a signature ingredient, such as cinnamon, allspice, or a splash of caramel syrup in the batter or dough. This makes your fritters taste like no other.
Variations:
Use a different fruit, such as pineapple, banana, pumpkin, or any berries – blueberries to goji – work in fritters. You don’t have to use fruit. Fritters can also contain cheese, meat, or vegetables. Anything you love to eat, you can fritter. Use Splenda in place of the sugar and powdered Splenda in place of the fritter dusting.
