Easy and Delicious Instant Pot Sesame Chicken
I think most people love take out, but it gets expensive and it usually has a lot of ingredients, preservatives, and additives that you don’t want in your food. You also can’t control the seasoning when you are ordering out. What I love about this recipe is that it is inexpensive to make, takes almost no time thanks to the Instant Pot and I can make it exactly the way I like it. I can fill it full of delicious ingredients, the perfect amount of spices and no preservatives.
What to Serve with this Sesame Chicken Recipe
Whenever I make this sesame chicken recipe, I almost always make it as a rice bowl. Whether it is on a plate or as a rice bowl, I like to serve the chicken right over the rice because then the sesame chicken sauce gets into the rice and makes it amazing. When thinking about other things to serve with Sesame Chicken Recipe, you can serve it with:
- Fried Rice: Normally I just use regular white rice, but you can certainly make fried rice to go with it. This recipe for Hawaiian Fried Rice would taste fantastic.
- Vegetables: Make any kind of stir fry vegetables. I like this garlic chicken stir fry recipe a lot. Instead of adding the chicken from the recipe, I use the chicken from this Instant Pot Sesame Chicken recipe.
Can I freeze this Sesame Chicken Recipe
Yes! When you make this Sesame Chicken recipe, you can freeze it. It freezes well. Sesame Chicken can be made as a freezer meal or you can freeze leftovers that will spoil before you have a chance to eat it. When you are making this sesame chicken as a freezer meal, I like to double the recipe. We eat it for dinner that night and I take the other half and freeze it for dinner another time. I store the freezer meal in the freezer bags. I have the sesame chicken in one bag and the rice in another bag. Then both bags go in the larger freezer bag together. This lets me write what is in the bag, when it was cooked and how many servings it is.
Another way to freeze sesame chicken is to freeze it in individual serving sizes. This lets you pull the chicken when you only need one serving.
Reheat the individual servings in the microwave and reheat the entire meal in the oven for the best results.
Tips for Cooking Frozen Chicken Breast
You can cook chicken from frozen. It will increase the amount of cooking time by at least 50%. When you are cooking frozen chicken, it can take extra seasonings to get the flavor into the chicken and you will not be able to caramelize the outsides by browning it first. Another down side of cooking frozen chicken, the chicken can get a rubbery chewy taste and texture. When you are making frozen chicken in the Instant Pot, these are issues rarely happen. The Instant Pot will get the flavor down into the meat and it will become tender and juicy. While it will increase your cooking time, even with the pressure cooker, it is because it takes longer for the pot to come to pressure when the chicken is frozen.

How to Make Sesame Chicken Sauce for Instant Pot Sesame Chicken
Set the Instant Pot to the saute function, and add in the sesame oil.
Place the chicken, chopped onion, and 1 ½ tablespoons each of the minced garlic and minced ginger into the pot. Saute the ingredients until the chicken is no longer pink on the outside.
While the chicken is searing, add the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of the sesame seeds, brown sugar, honey, hoisin sauce and the rest of the minced ginger and garlic to a bowl. Whisk to combine the ingredients well.
Turn off the saute function, and pour the sauce mixture over the chicken in the Instant Pot.
Place the lid on the Instant Pot, making sure the release valve is in the sealing position.
Set the Instant Pot to cook manually on high for 3 minutes. Perform a quick release to relieve the pressure right away when the cook time is over, and open the lid.
Mix together the cornstarch and water until completely dissolved.
Pour the cornstarch mixture into the Instant Pot, and stir it with the chicken until the sauce begins to thicken.
