How do you keep fried chicken crispy and juicy?
The best way to keep the baked chicken fried steak crispy and juicy is to cook it just right. Overcooking the steak will actually dry it up and turn it tough and chewy.
Does oil or butter make chicken crispy?
You could use either oil or butter for this recipe- the key to making the chicken fried steak crispy is to use the right flour for the coating.
While you can just stick to using all-purpose flour for this recipe, substituting it for rice flour instead will help crisp up the chicken steak even more.
How to Serve Baked Chicken Fried Steak with Mushroom Gravy?
Your baked chicken fried steak with mushroom gravy is an absolute classic that can be enjoyed independently.
You can also serve it with some steamed rice, noodles or even some mashed potatoes.
The steak and the mushroom gravy can actually taste great when paired with some biscuits too!
Tips:
- While this recipe calls for the use of cube steaks, you can actually use almost any other cut of meat and just use a meat mallet to pound it and tenderize it before using it for the recipe.
- When cooking the steaks in the skillet, remember to leave some breathing room for the meats- you don’t want to overcrowd the pan.
- You can also add a pinch or two of baking powder into the flour to make the chicken coating crispier.
- To lend some more flavor and deliciousness to the steak, you can also season the coating with some garlic powder and onion powder.
Variations:
- Instead of mushroom gravy, you can make chicken gravy using the cream of chicken soup.
- To make the steaks extra crispy on the outside, you can use breadcrumbs as the coating instead of flour.
Ingredients:
- Cube steaks
- Onion
- Cream of mushroom soup
