Ingredients:

  • Chicken broth
  • Shredded chicken
  • Roll of crescent rolls
  • Cream of chicken soup
  • Shredded cheddar cheese

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

Chicken broth: If you don’t have traditional chicken broth in the kitchen, consider swapping it for chicken bouillon cubes. Be sure to water the bouillon down enough to avoid making this dish too salty, as bouillon cubes are packed with salt.

Cream of chicken soup: If you prefer a milder taste or if you’re out of cream of chicken soup, swap it for cream of mushroom soup.

Cheddar cheese: I highly recommend using freshly grated cheddar cheese instead of packaged shredded cheese. Packaged shredded cheese is often more difficult to melt properly, regardless of how long you cook this quick crescent and chicken rollups recipe.

Crescent rolls: You can choose whichever brand of crescent rolls you prefer for this recipe. If you’re trying new recipes and you want to make your own rolls, try our soft buttery yeast rolls or go for some Texas Roadhouse rolls with cinnamon honey butter. Yum!

Shredded chicken: I highly recommend preparing your chicken in advance. For an even easier time making these family friendly crescent and chicken rollups, consider using a rotisserie chicken. A rotisserie chicken is juicy, tender, and ready to work with immediately, which can save you plenty of time.

Step 1. Heat the oven to 400 degrees. While you’re waiting for your oven to heat up, you can get to work on the additional ingredients called for in this recipe.

Step 2. Mix the soup and broth together in a mixing bowl. Mixing wet ingredients together first will ensure they’re fully combined and equally mixed.

Then, add the chicken.

Step 3. Fold in ½ of the cheese. Stir to combine.

Step 4. Roll out the crescent roll dough and divide it into triangles. If you’re using your own dough, you can cut the dough into triangles after rolling it out on your counter or a larger cutting board.

Tips for Success

Here are a few tips to help you make the best chicken roll-ups ever:

  1. Choose a good filling. When it comes to chicken roll-ups, the filling is key! Be sure to choose something tasty and flavorful that will complement the chicken nicely. Some of our favorite fillings include bacon, cheese, and pesto.
  2. Don’t overstuff your roll-ups. It’s important to not overstuff your roll-ups, or they will be difficult to eat. A good rule of thumb is to keep the filling size at about 1/3 of the total width of the crescent roll.
  3. Use a baking sheet. To ensure even cooking, use a baking sheet when baking your chicken roll-ups. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from burning.
  4. Use a toothpick to secure them. If you’re worried about your chicken roll-ups falling apart, use a toothpick to secure them together. This will help keep them together while they bake.

Storage & Reheating

Thankfully, you can store these delicious crescent rolls for up to 3 days in your refrigerator, using an airtight container or a Ziploc bag. If you want to freeze these, do so in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag or another container designed for freezing for up to 3 months.

To reheat, remove the rolls from your fridge or freezer and allow them to thaw or come close to room temperature. Place the rolls on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes on 300 degrees Fahrenheit. You can also pop them into the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes each.

Serving Suggestions

I highly suggest serving these deliciously nutritious rolls with sides such as honey butter skillet corn, Parmesan crusted asparagus fries, air fryer green beans, or even Italian green beans. Because these rolls are hearty and packed with deliciousness and chicken, a green salad is also a great potential side. A sheet pan of veggies is also a great idea for these rolls. As these rolls take center stage, you can find a variety of sides that are just perfect for a mid-week dinner.

FAQs

What are some additional variations I can consider when making these crescent rolls?

  • One is to add cheese to the mixture before rolling it up in the crescent rolls.
  • Another variation is to use seasoned chicken instead of plain chicken. This can be done by mixing salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings into the chicken before rolling it up.
  • Finally, another variation is to bake the roll-ups instead of frying them.

Notes

You can pop these rolls back into the oven and broil on high for 1-2 minutes after adding the cheese to the top. This will help brown the cheese even more.
