This is a bread that takes a little bit of time to make, but it’s well worth the effort. The dough is kneaded for a long time until it’s nice and smooth, then it’s allowed to rise until it doubles in size.

As a simple recipe, it is called Peasant Bread because it was the peasants who first made this bread. The recipe for this bread is economical, which is what the peasants needed when times were tough.
Is white bread bleached?
This is dependent on the flour. There are some flours that are labeled as ‘bleached’, while others are not.
Do I have to use bread flour?
No, most people do not have bread flour at home. All purpose flour works just as well for this bread.
What should I serve with the white bread?

Ingredients:
- Dry active yeast
- Warm water
- Egg
- Salt
- Granulated sugar
- Oil
- All-purpose flour
How to make Grandma’s Country White Bread:
Step 1. Add the yeast and water to a large mixing bowl and allow to sit to bloom for 10 minutes.
Step 2. Place 2 cups of flour into the mixing bowl with the yeast mixture.
Step 3. Then, add 1 large egg and 1 tsp of salt.
Step 4. Then, add ¼ cup of granulated sugar.
Step 5. Lastly, add 3 tbsp of Oil.
Step 6. Blend on high until well combined.
Step 7. Add in another cup of flour and blend until the dough is smooth.
Step 8. If needed, add more flour, a ¼ cup at a time until the dough easily slips away from the mixing handle.
Step 9. Place the dough in a well-greased large bowl, and turn over a few times to coat it well so it does not stick.
Step 10. Cover lightly with a clean cloth and place in a warm area to rise for an hour. The dough should rise to at least double its original size.
Step 11. Punch the dough down, knead a few times, and place it into a well-greased loaf pan.
Step 12. Cover and place into a warm area to rise once again for another hour.
Step 13. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes until browned and cooked through.

- ¼ C Granulated sugar
- 3 Tbsp Oil
- 3-4 C All-purpose flour

How do I store this bread?
Place the bread into a plastic bag and seal it tightly. It can be stored in the refrigerator or on the counter.

News FLASH! This recipe is fantastic made in a bread machine. Just add ingredients in the order directed by the manufacturer. Choose basic white bread, 1 1/2 pound loaf and medium crust. I’ve made multiple loaves in the last few days with consistency great results using all purpose flour. KEEPER!
