Why I love do Instant Pot Cabbage, Sausage, and Potato Soup?
- Cooking sausage and potato soup in an Instant Pot provides me with the taste of simmering soup on the stove but at a cooking speed similar to that of a microwave.
- This soup offers a healthy meal that, with one or two recipe alterations, can produce a low-calorie meal.
What meat goes best with cabbage?
Traditionally, Polish kielbasa sausage pairs best with cabbage. You can also use ham with cabbage and potatoes.
Why is my Instant Pot Cabbage, Sausage, and Potato Soup bitter?
Some vegetables, such as leeks, cause bitterness, so if you add them to the basic recipe, try cutting that vegetable or reducing the amount used. Also, remove the scum from the top of the soup. It consists of vegetable skin that contains impurities that cause a bitter taste. Simmering the soup slowly helps remove bitterness.
Why do people put vinegar on cabbage?
Without vinegar, cabbage loses its purple color and turns blue when cooking.
What happens if you don’t wash cabbage?
Bacteria develop on cabbage while it grows on the ground and insects can crawl inside. Without washing it, bacteria remain on the vegetable which can cause illness in those who eat it. Thoroughly wash the exterior leaves, then remove them and cut the cabbage. Wash the interior leaves.
How to Serve Instant Pot Cabbage, Sausage, and Potato Soup?
This sausage and potato soup tastes best served piping hot in bowls with a side salad and scrumptious bread, such as garlic bread or onion fritters. Top it off with a carrot cake for dessert.
Cooking Tips:
- The salt and the garlic help to combat the aftertaste of cabbage, which can come off as bitter. Avoid leaving them out.
- After washing the cabbage, soak it in salted water for about three hours. This helps it remain crisp and removes some of its bitterness.
Variations:
- You can alter this sausage and potato soup recipe in a couple of ways to increase its healthy nature and tailor it to some special diets. Here’s how.
- Trade the salt for NoSalt, a sodium substitute that works as a one-to-one substitute for table salt, if you have high blood pressure and need to reduce your salt intake. For the garlic salt, mix one-part NoSalt with two parts powdered garlic.
- To make this soup lower in fat and calories, substitute Light Parkay for the butter. Use turkey polska kielbasa instead of pork.
